A man has died after a fatal shooting in Croydon this morning (Saturday, October 2), police have said.

Emergency services were called to reports of a shooting on Birdhurst Road in Croydon in the moments before 5am on Saturday. Paramedics and police arrived to find the victim, a 35-year-old man.

A murder investigation has since been launched by the Met Police, to be led by DCI Katherine Goodwin of Specialist Crime. There have been no arrests so far.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was at a house party in the Birdhurst Road area of Croydon on Saturday morning to get in touch as they investigate a fatal shooting.

“Although our enquiries are at a very early stage, I believe the victim may have attended a house party which continued through the early hours of Saturday morning, near to the scene of the shooting in Birdhurst Road, Croydon.

“Officers would like to speak to anyone who was at that party. Even if you do not think you saw or heard anything significant, please contact police if you were there.

“I also want to appeal for any witnesses, anyone with information or anyone who may have relevant dashcam or other footage to please get in touch.”

Victim of fatal shooting in Croydon named by police

The victim of a fatal shooting in Croydon has been named as 35-year-old Leroy Mitchell.

Police were called shortly before 05.00hrs on Saturday, 2 October, to reports of a male shot in a car park in Birdhurst Road, Croydon.

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, Leroy was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

Detectives investigating the murder are continuing to appeal for anyone who was at a house party in the Birdhurst Road area of Croydon on Saturday morning, or who saw Leroy on the night of Friday, 1 October, to get in touch.

Nothing yet in MSM or police news releases sheds any light on whether Leroy Mitchell was shot accidentally, or whether he was the intended target of a deliberate shooting. If the latter, there is no indication of motive yet.
