Below is the text of the Met Police's latest call for support:

Family of missing woman appeal for the public's support

One year on from the disappearance of Nazire Koreli, her family continue to appeal directly to the people who can help.

Nazire, 55 was last seen close to her home in Welling in September 2024. As concerns grew around Nazire’s whereabouts, she was reported missing to the Met Police on Friday, 28 February 2025.

Since she was reported missing, officers have carried out an extensive search of her home address and reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV to find Nazire.

Enquiries within the Met’s Specialist Crime Unit resulted in the arrest of a man in his 50s on suspicion of Nazire’s murder on Monday, 10 March. He has since been released on bail as enquiries continue.

Officers continue to support Nazire’s family who remain desperate for answers.

Nazire’s daughter said:

“My world stood still the day I discovered my mother was missing. Since then, not a day has passed without questions.

“She was a teacher for many years, beloved by many. A mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and now a grandmother.

“I have had to learn to live with the unknown and be strong for my family’s sake. But while she is missing, and we have no answers, life will never be the same.

“If you have any information, no matter how small, that could help us find her, or bring us some closure, I urge you to please contact the police. Even the smallest detail could make a difference.”

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley of Specialist Crime South said:

“It’s been a year since Nazire was last seen and her family remain without the answers they deserve.

“We continue to keep an open mind and share our optimism with Nazire’s family that she will be found safe and well.

“Nazire had many friends and acquaintances in the Bexley area and we are asking anyone who knew her to think back and contact us if they saw her between September 2024 and March 2025.

“She is described as a woman of a slim build, with light brown hair and olive skin.

“If you have seen her, please contact us.”

A couple of things stand out here:

1. Why did it take so long to report Nazire missing? Was she frequently out of contact or a very infrequent visitor? No one visited her at home? September to end of Feb is a long time to realise that someone has completely gone missing.

2. When friends and family did become aware Nazire had not been seen or been in touch for a long time, how did they figure out that she was last seen in September? (Probably easy to answer this one but putting it out there as there must have been some discussion about who saw her when and where).

3. Who was the man who was arrested for murder? Why did the police think in March that she had been killed rather than just leaving to start a new life or committing suicide? And why this man? Who is he and who is/was he to Nazire?

It must be absolutely awful for her friends and family and I hope they get answers very soon.

Nazire is 55 years old, slim build, 5"1 tall and is of Turkish Cypriot appearance. She was well known in the local community and regularly walked her dog, "Diego" in the area including Stevens Park.
