From Aug 30th

Police revealed that Rossi's DNA has now been matched to a second case involving a 21-year-old girl. [...]

The 21-year-old claimed she was lured to Rossi’s home after meeting him on MySpace. He is next scheduled for a bail hearing in the Salt Lake County case on October 16.

Former Edinburgh prisoner Nicholas Rossi faces life behind bars after DNA link confirmed

I don't know if there has been one or two hearings. Different judge's name mentioned in this article.

There's a longer video of the hearing here, the first 5 minutes or so is just a recap.

This man's brain should be donated to science.

It has probably been posted awhile ago but here's the fake obituary he wrote about himself. A wee bit over the top. Imo.

So, going by his obituary he ‘fought valiantly’ for children in RI for ‘two decades’ and died at the age of 32 meaning he started this amazing and heartwarming crusade when he was 12 years old.

Just lock him up and throw away the key.

I never heard of this guy until I saw a program on Discovery-ID last night! He was beyond scary!

I do wonder what his life was like before he was adopted by the Engelbert impersonator, not that it excuses anything, and who his biological parents were and what they were like.

He is a stand-alone gem here on WS😂 More like a science project!

I’d like to know the family dynamics too!

The first of two Utah rape trials for Rhode Island con man Nicholas Alahverdian, who faked his death in 2020 as the FBI investigated a credit card fraud complaint against him, is scheduled to begin Aug. 11. [...]

Alahverdian had been convicted in 2008 of groping a woman at an Ohio community college. He then attempted to sue the woman for libel and had his appeal request tossed when his key piece of supposedly new evidence was ruled a fake blog post.

Investigators says DNA from that case ties him to the rape of a 21-year-old woman in Orem, Utah, in September 2008.

The trial scheduled to begin Aug. 11 involves allegations that he also raped a 26-year-old Salt Lake County woman in November 2008.

No DNA ties him to that incident, investigators have said. The plaintiff came forward after recognizing Alahverdian during his international extradition case. [...]

Both plaintiffs in the two rape cases are expected to testify at both trials. [...]

In an interesting twist, Alahverdian, who has used several different names in recent years, has appealed in recent weeks to the judge in his Salt Lake case that he now be charged under his birth name, Alahverdian.

The judge has denied the request.

Rossi, 38, is scheduled for another trial in September in Utah County where he is accused of raping a 21-year-old woman in Orem. In both cases he is charged with rape, a first-degree felony, based on alleged actions in 2008. [...]

In Salt Lake County, a woman reported interactions with Rossi in 2022 to police after seeing news of his extradition process, and charges were later filed. She and Rossi dated for about two weeks and discussed marriage, but following an argument about breaking up in December of 2008 he held her down and raped her, according to charging documents. [...]

Third District Judge Barry Lawrence, who oversees the Salt Lake County case, ruled that the DNA collected for the Utah County case could be used in the current trial to place Rossi in Utah in 2008. He also ruled that the woman who is the alleged victim in Utah County can testify in the Salt Lake County case.

He ruled that evidence about DNA collection in Ohio, which investigators have testified helped them identify Rossi, cannot be used. Evidence about Rossi's location and actions since 2017 will also be kept out of the trial, as the judge determined it would have low probative value and would cause prejudice against Rossi. This includes evidence of Rossi faking his own death, assuming an overseas alias, and fighting extradition over the course of multiple years. [...]

In the Utah County case, Rossi is scheduled for a hearing on Aug. 19, shortly after the trial ends, to discuss yet another motion about evidence for the September trial.

In that case, a woman went to the hospital reporting she had been sexually assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. According to charging documents, she reported to police she had ended a relationship with Rossi because he was getting more aggressive and owed her money. Later, he invited her over, saying he would pay her the money he owed, and he forced sexual contact on her despite her saying no at least 10 times, according to prosecutors.

Charging documents say police reports in four different states show a consistent pattern of behavior from Rossi, including meeting a woman online, making manipulating comments, and forcing a nonconsensual sexual encounter or threatening suicide. [...]

Discussed marriage after dating for TWO WEEKS? Red flags all over the place, folks.

The FBI has said he also faces fraud charges in Ohio, where he was convicted of sex-related charges in 2008.

[...]

Rossi’s second trial will take place in Utah County, where he’s accused of raping another woman in 2008. He was not identified as a suspect until about a decade later, due to a backlog of DNA test kits at the Utah State Crime Lab, reported the AP.

All 10 jurors were seated, heard opening arguments and then heard testimony from the woman who claims Rossi raped her 17 years ago. She was the first witness called to the stand after the jury took their oath, and each side gave its opening arguments.

Rossi stayed silent and kept his eyes on her as she battled tears, telling the court he assaulted her in his bedroom after she tried to break things off with him.

"Rossi then raped her, prosecutors said. She told her parents but they didn’t take action so she gave up, instead filing a small claims to get the money back for the ring that he kept. The court will hear from those close to the alleged victim at the time of the incident, as well as an expert who will discuss how sexual assault survivors react to their assault and a detective involved in the case.

Defense’s opening statement claims Rossi is innocent. They said this case is a puzzle with multiple pieces missing. They claim the two had a whirlwind romance, and that she only contacted police 13 years later, when she saw him on the news, and had already built up years of resentment." [...]

(bolded emphasis mine) man.... I wish I could say this surprised me but sadly, that kind of seems to be the Utah standard.

I know I've made lots of gags about this loser in this thread but I do it in the name of hoping this idiot gets nailed to the wall and mocked so hard that nobody wants to copy his crimes ever again. I hope that, three generations from now, one of his distant relatives runs a genealogy test and sees him listed as "a crappy joke, don't worry about it"

In this Sky News video they play a recording of the woman 'Louise' , apparently his 'widow', who made phone calls to Rhode Island saying that Nicholas Rossi was dead, and then they play a portion of video of his wife Miranda speaking.

starts at 22.49

I don't think she was ignorant of this idiot criminal's past.

There's clearly a camera in the courtroom so I'm not sure why we aren't getting a livestream. Snippets here from opening statements - it can be viewed on Youtube if you click the link

Assuming there is a sentencing phase - I wonder if the jury can hear about all of the other BS like claiming he was tattooed while critically ill with COVID and such?
