Missing Shaun Ritchie since 31st October 2014.

Strange case this, Shaun was last seen with friends at a farmhouse near Banff / Fraserburgh. A call to emergency services was made asking for assistance then a second call was made cancelling the assistance requested. Nobody knows what happened to Shaun, his dad suspects foul play.

Will add more links as I go. Here is the family's Facebook page for Shaun.

My thoughts on this case are that the friends must know more than they are letting on. From what I can find online, none of his friends that were there that night have spoken to the media. I'd be interested to know if they ever traced who made the calls to the emergency services, that strikes me as very very strange.

BBM This! I've just read through a load of articles and the most any of them say about the emergency calls (if they even mention them!) is that one call was made for help, another was made to cancel it.

Who made the calls?
Whose phone was used for both?
What help was requested?
Why did they cancel it?
Why didn't police check it out anyway?

The phone calls appear pivotal to me, but I also think that perhaps the phone calls are pivotal to the prosecution's case should a body or a conscience appear at a later stage and that's why they're not giving more detail on this. I think police know what happened, they're waiting for the opportunity to prove it. So jogging people's memories and conscience is all they have for the time being. Sadly.

Let's hope the family get some sort of ending though; what a horrible ordeal the not knowing must be.

I get the impression that Shauns father would disagree. He doesn't seem to have much faith in the police helping to find his son.

Exactly my thoughts about the phone calls though, these I think are crucial to identifying who knows what happened to Shaun.

There has been many searches carried out in the area but nothing has turned up as yet.

ok I'm hooked on this one already and reading everything I can find. Interesting article about a "debt"
I've been following this one for a while but couldn't find anything in here so set up this.

Interestingly, I read one article where the father says the police had done all they could and that he couldn't fault them.... then another much later article where both parents are angry the police aren't listening to them. I think the police are listening, but they can't do anything... yet. Or with what they have.

For the parents, they just want the police focussing on their son always. It must be very difficult to find that when they call for an update they have to give spellings of names, dates and feel like their son's disappearance is unknown or on the back-burner (I'm being presumptuous in these scenarios). I can understand how they might feel they're being glossed over or not listened to. But the police can only work a case for so long with the evidence they have. Until new evidence comes up, what can they do? They have other cases to work on.

This is a very intriguing case! Lots of opinion blogs out there too, which are always a good read.

Poor family. And poor Shaun. I so hope he's found.

I'd forgotten that the police recovered some items of Shauns clothing. If I can find the link I'll post it but in cases of hyperthermia some people start to remove their clothing, that could be a reason why some clothing was found.

I'd love to know who Shaun's "friends" were because IMO they know a lot more than they've ever said. Spookily, the farmhouse (& some surrounding land) where Shaun was last seen was put up for sale.
Interesting. I wonder how easy it'll be to search the place again after so many years now and with potential new owners.

And yes, the friends are very quiet. That speaks volumes IMO

Thanks for adding to UK thread, Eneri

Do Police Scotland ever release 999 tapes? Surely that would clear up who called. And what did they say the problem was in the first place? Could it have been as simple as Shaun having a bad reaction to drugs?

So I've found Shaun's FB page. Wonder if any of the friends in the photo's were the friends he was out with that night...?

Well I did think something along those lines myself and then maybe they were separated in the dark but I still find it odd that none of his friends have spoken out.

Could it be fear? If something serious did happen, and none of his friends were involved, they will have given statements to the police but might be otherwise lying low. I haven't read all the articles, does dad seem to think the friends are innocent or is there a suggestion of complicity?

I saw you asked about a thread for him before, and I couldn't recall anything of the event so I began to read up about his disappearance.
It's certainly a strange set of circumstances.

Just to say glad you've started a thread for him.

Going by the Facebook page, I'd say dad thinks the friends know far more than they've said. If there was a drug debt or suspicions that drugs were involved I guess that would make his friends stay quiet
