A friend of the family of a Harrogate woman who went missing five days ago has described the agony the community is feeling as the search for her intensifies.

Andrew Hart who owns Starbeck Post Office spoke out as the desperate search for Sophie Lambert continues. Today (Tues) marks the fifth day since she went missing with her family reporting her missing to North Yorkshire Police on Friday, June 16.

There have been no confirmed sightings of her since then. Concerns are growing for her welfare and extensive police searches have been taking place in the Nidd Gorge area with assistance from Search and Rescue. A Facebook group named 'Missing - Sophie Lambert' has been set up to try and spread the word.

Mr Hart who owns the Post Office in Starbeck where Sophie lives and who runs the Facebook group: Starbeck Community with more than 2,500 members, said: "As soon as I heard Sophie going missing I wanted to help in whatever way I could.

"Sophie is young enough to be my granddaughter and I can't imagine what her family is going through at the moment. I used to see her walk past the Post Office quite frequently and she is a member of the group and obviously, I am concerned about her.

"Some weeks ago I posted on my Facebook Group: Starbeck Community, that I had a growing concern about the lack of policing and the social and moral pressures our young people are under. It is not just employment, inflation, and a roof over their heads, it is County Lines drugs, debt, gangs, crime, and grooming.

"The Harrogate area is being overrun by people hellbent on corrupting our kids, getting them into debt, or reliant upon drugs and then using them. The trouble is there is no faith or trust in the system and there is a lot of fear. The safer community officer, the council, the police and the Commissioner either cannot cope or are not interested..."
