Searches are ongoing for a man who has been reported missing after not returning from a hill walk in Lochaber.

Stuart Baillie, 60, from Bo’ness set out to walk on a route to Aonach Beag and Aonach Mor from the Steall Falls car park in Glen Nevis on Monday, 20 December.

He was reported missing around 6.35pm after not returning as planned.

He was last heard from around 2.10pm on the summit of Aonach Beag.

Personnel from the Lochaber, Glencoe and Police Scotland mountain rescue teams are involved in searches, along with the Search and Rescue Dogs Association and the HM Coastguard helicopter.

Stuart is described as white, 5ft 9in tall with brown eyes and a mole on his right cheek. He wears glasses.

He is likely to be wearing a purple waterproof jacket, black waterproof bottoms and carrying a purple or blue rucksack.

One of the images shows Stuart in his usual hillwalking clothing.

Sergeant Chris Hardwick of Fort William Police Station said: “This is a popular walking route and I would urge anyone who has been in the area and believes they may have seen or spoken to Stuart to get in touch as soon as they can.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 2718 of 20 December.”

2.10 pm was pretty late for summiting, considering that the sunset was at 15.41. I hope Stuart had a torch with him. Also, these mountains might not be super high, but the paths are not easy in winter, due to icing and snow.

Yes that late. Just had a look at his walk, it looks straight forward (as walks in this area go) to reach the summit of Aonach Beag. It is recommend you descend the same way back. If you want to go another way back there are various choices of return.

  • It is possible to descend from the bealach westwards down a very steep and rough path to the col between Aonach Mor and Carn Mor Dearg, then follow the Allt Daim back northwards, though this is heather-clad and quite tough.
  • From Aonach Mor, more experienced hillwalkers can scramble down the loose ground east of Aonach Mor's summit and follow the circular crest over Stob an Chul-Choire to Sgurr Finniosgaig.
  • Or simply return the same way. This is the easiest route.
Im sure search and rescue will be searching these areas. If hes fallen i really hope he is found today,
