On 4 July 2017 at around 1pm a body was seen in the waters of the Cuckmere River estuary, in Cuckmere Haven, southern England, near the coast of Northern France. She is a white-skinned, European woman, aged between 25 and 55, with dark, shoulder-length dyed red hair and nails colored with red nail polish. Around her neck she wore two necklaces: a white metal chain and a dark metal chain with a leaf-like floral design pendant. No signs of violence were highlighted and despite the ritual checks, including fingerprints, DNA and dental records, the woman was not identified. The autopsy established that death occurred due to a fall from a great height. Sergeant Tod Stewart, who is handling the matter, said: "We believe the necklace is very unique and could be an antique, it could be vital information which could help identify her." Through its social channels and on its official website the identikit of the woman created by a forensic artist.

  • ''A mystery woman's body washed up in a cove near Seaford, East Sussex last July
  • She fell from a great height, was hit by a boat or had been swept onto the rocks''
  • 'If you have information ring Sussex police on 101, quoting CAD604, date 4/7/17''
  • ''The woman has shoulder-length brown hair, dark eyes and an open, pleasant face. There is the trace of a smile on her lips, and she wears two delicate silver necklaces.''
  • ''No one, it seems, even recognised the necklaces, one a distinctive antique filigree pendant with a maker’s mark, possibly French.''All we know is that at some point before her untimely death, she had taken the time to paint her toenails red and dye matching streaks in her hair. Was her death an accident, suicide or something more sinister? Did she fall from cliffs or a boat?''

A post-mortem examination revealed that the woman had suffered injuries consistent with either a fall from a height, being hit by a boat or being swept by waves onto rocks (file photo of Cuckmere Haven)

Cliffs in the region are well known as a place people who are suicidal go. I think there's a good chance she jumped close to where she was found. Doesn't mean she lived locally, she could have come from elsewhere expressly for the purpose.
