Watching the video clip in this article it is apparent that the members of the public have no idea about the need for first aid. Now I don't know exactly what the nature of the injuries were (I know it's a stabbing) but it is possible that with prompt first aid it would have bought more time for the paramedics to give advanced life support and maybe give Thomas a fighting chance.

Learn first aid folks....you never know when you could save a life.

Absolutely heartbreaking :(
I hope this disgusting murderer will be caught soon.

RIP Sir Thomas.
You will be remembered as a kind and generous man by the community.

Mr O'Halloran was collecting money for Ukraine torn by the war.
And was murdered while playing his accordion in the street to collect money.

"Someone must have been watching him collect his charity money then followed him. An elderly man on a mobility scooter is an easy target and you wouldn’t expect them to put up much of a fight.

It’s a despicable crime."

The offender may have followed TO for over 1km until he reached the underpass, which looks as though it was relatively well concealed from public view. This makes me think TO had been followed before and that this may have been a targeted and pre-planned attack.

The underpass that goes underneath the railway lines. The chink of light straight ahead!

Armed police smashed into the west London home of a 44-year-old man accused of stabbing beloved busker Thomas O'Halloran to death in a tense 30-minute standoff, neighbours revealed today - amid mounting anger as a wave of violent crime sweeps the capital.

The 87-year-old grandfather, a member of the Irish community in Ealing who was raising money for Ukraine war victims outside a Tesco store and South Greenford railway station, was fatally attacked in his mobility scooter in Greenford on Tuesday - in a daylight attack that has appalled the country.

Scotland Yard today said a suspect was arrested at a property in nearby Southall - less than two miles from the scene of the attack - early this morning and remains in custody.

Many thanks to whoever identified this murderer!
Well done!

Indeed. The power of social media plays a huge part in identifying and locating suspects quickly in cases like this.

Let's hope the police can soon find the gloves and knife along with clothing worn by the suspect and any mobile phone he may have been carrying.

The shopkeeper, whose store is less than 300 yards from where police arrested a man early this morning, told MailOnline he immediately recognised the man from the CCTV image released by police after the suspected murder.

He said: 'I've only seen him a couple of times, but I know his mum who always comes in here. As soon as I saw the police photo I remembered the incident and found him on the CCTV. There was something off about him which made me remember him.'

The arrested man, LB, was also responsible for a string of violent jewellery shop robberies in south east England 10 or so years ago, “a Fagin-type” ringlinger who hired young men to rob at gun point.

“The five pleaded guilty at Kingston Crown Court in August and October last year and were jailed for a total of 41 years yesterday [2011].

Detective Chief Inspector Pam Mace, head of the Metropolitan Police’s flying squad, based in Barnes, said: "LB was a prominent and influential figure within west London crime circles. He controlled a violent gang of young men, directing them to commit high value commercial robberies and regarded himself as untouchable.”

So after serving time in prison he [allegedly] attacks a defenceless gentleman off to busk for charity. Disgusting.

A career criminal then.

Let's hope that b/c of recidivism he will get a loooong sentence (minimum).

Methinks you will not be disappointed.

This lowlife needs removing from the streets permanently, only leaving prison in a box.

I am against capital punishment for many reasons but I'd be quite happy to make an exception for this bottom feeder.

London really has become a den of despair with the high crime rates and gang culture.

Well if he was the ringleader back in 2011, I bet he got the longest sentence and has probably not been long out of jail.

I'm not sure how whole life tariffs work but if he stalked and killed TO then I hope he gets it.

Will be interesting to hear what his excuse will be for stabbing poor TO.

LB got 12 years for robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery in February 2011. Automatic release would have been after six years, less time on remand, I believe.

Since 2019, the Government tightened up for sentences of four years or more, when two-thirds, not half of the sentence would have to be served before automatic release, less time on remand.

Unless LB has a previous murder conviction then he wont been given a whole life tariff if found guilty.

The starting point for sentencing in the circumstances would be 25 years. Add aggravating factors, e.g. age/infirmity of victim, any significant planning/premeditation and deduct any mitigating factors....I can't really see too many of those, and arrive at a healthy balance of something in the region of 30years, plus a few more hopefully.

Still for this one the short drop would be too good.

Humble beginnings of the Irish busker

Read this article and the enormity of how families are impacted was rather raw. He was obviously a lovely and very much loved man. Rest in Peace Thomas O'Halloran....you brought a lot of happiness to all.

I do know that whole life tarrifs are rare but what I'm hoping on is that this killing comes under "exceptional circumstances".

This rule applied to WC who killed Sarah Everard but had no serious previous convictions. He got a whole life tarrif by the exceptional circumstances of him using his police status to rape a kill a women.

I'm dearly hoping that exceptional circumstances are used in the murder of a 87 year old disabled man, on a scooter by a healthy carrear criminal.
