She might have just walked to the river as a nice place to walk as opposed to going somewhere via the river?

She might have just had regular stuff in her bag along with the items she purchased while out?

She might have just put the bag down while she sat down for a bit? She might not have been purposely 'discarding' anything?

Hopefully the post mortem will show if there's any sign of an attack or a medical event. If nothing like that is found, slippery, waterlogged riverbanks can be a risk for slipping and falling into a river. If she'd been found in the first few hours this would never have made national news and no one would have thought about Victoria's bag or personal life.

Oh boy, this is just terrible on so many levels. That she had gone into the river 2 months prior is extra heartbreaking! I hope the world catches up with the overwhelming existence of mental health conditions and the need for change and help.

That's heartbreaking that she didn't get the help she needed and that she'd already tried that method before.

Absolutely heartbreaking that she clearly sought help but it was denied. After the first attempt she was clearly a danger to herself, the second attempt she should have been sectioned under the mental health act. That might have saved her life.

I would expect that it was because there were even more serious cases requiring support than Victoria's. The reality is that the UK has experienced an explosion in mental health issues in recent years and there simply aren't enough resources for everyone.

Lockdown in 2020 and 2021 has been a factor in this (and I would be interested in hearing whether it has had a similar impact in other countries which locked down for varying periods). There has also been an incredible rise in mental health issues amongst tweens and teenagers, especially around anxiety, bullying, school refusal and similar problems, which is largely being driven by social media and (IMO) by changes in how adults have been parenting children and young people over the past 20 years.

The reality is that the NHS cannot afford to meet an open-ended demand by an infinite number of people. Nor can there be sufficient trained professionals to meet that infinite demand.
