The tragic unsolved 1971 murder of a pregnant new bride
"Eight days after her murder, Susan's husband was arrested and charged with her murder.

He told police: "I don't hold 'owt against you.

"You are just doing your job. But I didn't kill her."

The couple had met in 1969 at a club in Hartlepool when he was 19 and she was 16.

They often went out as a foursome with Susan's cousin and his partner.

It would later be revealed that the accused had been having an affair with her cousin's partner and the adultery continued into their short marriage.

He denied murder and a trial took place at Durham Assizes Court in February 1972.

Forensic scientists told the trial there was nothing to connect the accused with the murder of his wife.

They could find no evidence of dust from the rubble in the partly-demolished house where Susan was found, in his own home in Kilwick Street.''
