***MISSING*** DUCHESNE COUNTY, UT
The Duchesne County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a man who came to visit Utah from Finland but hasn't been heard from in two weeks. The Sheriff's Office said they were contacted by the family of 28-year-old Onni Llmari Raassina on March 17th, 2025. Onni arrived at Salt Lake City International Airport on March 5, 2025, but has not been seen since. He was believed to be traveling from the airport to the Moon Lake area in Duchesne County, UT, though it is unclear if he ever reached his destination. It's not known who picked him up and dropped him off.

Anyone with information on Onni’s whereabouts or who has been in contact with him is urged to contact DCSO Captain John Crowley at (435) 738-1126.

Raassina is 5'8'', white, has blue eyes and has short strawberry blonde hair.

According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, Onni was last seen in the Talmage/Mountain Home area

The sheriff’s office first asked for information about Onni’s whereabouts in a social media post on March 19. More information was released on March 31, with officials saying he was believed to be heading to the Moon Lake area of Duchesne County.

Finnish media reporting about Onni as well:

“DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah — Police are asking for the public's help to find a man who came to visit Utah from Finland, but hasn't been heard from in two weeks.

The Duchesne County Sheriff's Office said they were contacted by the family of 29-year-old Onni Llmari Raassina on March 17. He was picked up from the Salt Lake City International Airport on March 5. They believe he took a taxi and was dropped off in Duchesne County, near the Moon Lake area — about 150 miles east of Salt Lake.

"We just know his cellphone pinged up here, and we have no sign of him," said DCSO Capt. John Crowley. "From what we've seen on the airport video, of the backpack he carried, he did not have the right equipment to be up in the Uintas."

Crowley said Raassina's family came to Utah and tried to find him for two weeks.

"I need the public's help immensely. We have a gentleman who's not from our country, the family doesn't even know why he left or anything else," the captain said. "In 30 years of law enforcement, I've never had to deal with a gentleman who flew in from Finland to go hiking up there."

How he's dressed in the video and the type of backpack - I don't see this as a serious hiker. I was trying to see what may have drawn him to this location, it's not exactly some place an avid hiker would travel across the globe to visit. But this popped up. Could he have been interested in the paranormal? Apparently the Moon Lake resort is known for that, perhaps a savvy marketing gimic, but some people take that stuff VERY seriously. https://www.abc4.com/news/northern-...to the Moon Lake, the famous Loch Ness Monster.

Interesting, comes to Utah from Finland (don't think I have see that on Webslueths before). Goes to a remote non touristy mountain area with ill prepared gear. Parents come looking for two weeks did they contact authorities in that time? Be interesting to find out the back story....

My gut reaction to this was linking up with some sort of group, cult, retreat, etc. Something attracted him there, specifically. Meditation retreat where you go totally offline, some sort of traditional ‘medicine’ experience, spiritual group, cult, something like that where you might shun the outside world for a time. JMO

He is now on Namus:

Male subject was driven out to Duchesne County from a Taxi and Dropped off at a closed resort, Moon Lake Resort. Reported to go hiking and looking for treasure the snow depth was too deep

Looking for treasure ??

ETA if you search in google “Moon Lake Resort Utah” and Treasure, things are becoming clear…

Yup - I posted a link to the Moon Lake Resort earlier - not the treasure angle but the paranormal. . .

His phone was last detected in the area near the Uinta Mountains, according to authorities.

Well, getting a taxi from outside the airport to a destination 150 miles away must have cost so much money.

Also, to note, he's from Finland, so it's not like he wouldn't have any cold-weather or and boots.

Finland is also full of lakes too. Thousands of them. Crazy to think he came to the USA to visit one. Unless, if course, it was just his phone that pinged there and he is elsewhere.

I hope the taxi driver has been interviewed. He could've got some tidbits of information of the long 150 mile taxi ride!

Authorities in Duchesne County are asking for help locating a man from Finland who went missing in March. They say he flew in last month to go search for treasure in the Uintas in the dead of winter.

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office said 28-year-old Onni Raassina flew into Salt Lake City on March 5 and took a yellow cab straight to Moon Lake Lodge, out in the Uinta Mountains

Capt. John Crowley said that was the last time anyone saw him.

“He read stories about Moon Lake, buried treasure at Moon Lake, and so he wanted to go up and see it"

Must be ca. 500$ if not more…

According to those treasure hunters that organise in August this convention at the resort, about the Spanish treasure, there is a map with an entrance to a place (an old mine or so) with a special sign.
However the information is limited, it is not that well known. Less than the ghost stories.

The weather is still harsh, with high snow and rigid temperatures. Why anyone from that far as Finland is, would spend so much money to travel (*) to look for what is probably an urban legend, I fail to get. Nature there is dangerous, the forest is thick from what I could read.
The resort is closed, he went straight from the airport, and his clothes were not appropriate, his backpack too small to contain basic necessary equipment for sleeping outdoors.
Something does not add up IMO.

(*) Finnair from Helsinki to Dallas, American Airlines from Dallas to Salt Lake, about 900$
Taxi from Salt Lake airport to Moon Lake Resort ca. 500$? It was a yellow cab Utah
