WEST JORDAN (ABC4 News) - Police consider a young nursing assistant "missing" but not "endangered" and the situation is agonizing for her anguished family.

Relatives of 23-year-old Summer Bailes Ferran say she hasn't been heard from her since Wednesday, March 13. Her stepfather reported her missing to the West Jordan Police Department, but at this point, they say there's not a whole lot that they can do.

"There's nothing. Nobody's seen her," Summer's Godmother Amber Woods said. "She just like vanished."

The Certified Nursing Assistant hasn't answered her phone or text messages or shown up for work at the University of Utah Hospital. Her family fears foul play and they've been getting her photo out on flyers and Facebook but say that police don't consider her case a high priority.

"She's an adult," Woods told ABC4 News. "She doesn't have any kind of criteria that make her endangered such as Alzheimer's, dementia, a learning disability."

Her family is worried sick, but Sergeant J.C Holt of the West Jordan Police Department says officers can't just go on worry. They need facts.

"We have to rely on evidence whether it be physical evidence, circumstantial evidence or some sort of clue if you will that leads us to believe a certain thing happened," Sgt. Holt said. "We do care as law enforcement when someone goes missing...It's just tough for us to differentiate if we have something we need to put a bunch of resources into right now or if we have something to need to wait on for a period of time to see if the person resurfaces."

Sgt. Holt says most missing adult cases have positive outcomes but that's not doing much for Summer's stepfather, Brett Christensen.

"It feels like it's been a couple of months," Christensen said. "I haven't really slept. Sometimes it feels like I can't breathe without the tears coming out. It's not something someone should ever go through...Just please everybody listen to us and help us find her."

Summer's family members will be hitting the streets Monday night, going door to door to pass out more flyers throughout her neighborhood.

Appears her dads last name is Bailes. Is the Ferran a married name?

Her mom's last name is different from Bailes and Ferran. She has two pix with her name as Summer Rayne Bailes Ferran. Confusing!
