It’s odd bc of lockdowns and the virus most everyone is home.....so a weird time to be doing a home invasion when you know that most likely the people are going to be home unless you went there with the intention to kill them and make it look like something else

Man, they look like such a sweet couple. Those poor wee kids.

There are some additional details in the article below.
Utah couple gunned down in home invasion as 3 small children slept upstairs, police say

This caught my attention because I lived in West Jordan for about 2 years. Then, seeing the circumstances just broke my heart. I guess I'm following it because I want it to make some sort of sense out of it. Why? Such a lovely family forever changed. :(

I live not far away and I want to make sense of this as well. What are we looking at here? These things usually boil down to money, sex, or revenge. Is this a business deal gone bad? Disgruntled ex employee? Vengeful ex? One thing I am certain of, this is a man if the door was kicked in.

I wonder if they employed anyone else in their business? Maybe someone's laid odd and mad about lack of wages?

Robbery just doesn't feel right, unless the perp was jacked up on drugs. Who would kick in a door in a quiet residential street with homes well lit and close together? I'm no robber, but this sure doesn't sound like a smart move IMO. Something's not right.

From that article:

Investigators believe Tony Butterfield may have injured the intruder with a knife in the backyard, the Tribune reported.

Whoever did this likely has a criminal record, thus his DNA is likely in the system. Even if that’s not the case, these people likely knew their killer(s).

This shouldn’t take a long time to solve.

I got the sense from that article that LE has a good idea of what or who was involved.

eta: any chance this could be related to the couple murdered in Sandy Utah?

So, now I see another article that says the individual is a suspect. Also it states there will be a 4PM news conference. I won't use the word suspect unless I hear it from the LE. Nope.
Police identify suspect in West Jordan double homicide
I’m confident this is accurate. The media isn’t going to characterize this guy as a suspect unless that’s coming from law enforcement. That image being used looks like a mugshot, which could mean they expedited the DNA testing, and he was already in the system.

ETA: This is coming directly from LE.

In preparation for our news release we are releasing a photo and name of the suspect on the Butterfield homicide case.

Listening to the live presser by LE now.

LE naming the suspect as Albert Enoch Johnson.
LE doesn't know where the suspect is currently.
The victim(s) and Johnson were known to each other.
Crime was targeted, not random.
Motive is unknown.

Both victims suffered gunshot wounds.
No gun recovered at the scene.
An altercation took place at the rear of the house, outside.

WANTED: Police seek suspect in double murder of West Jordan parents

"Johnson is believed to have been wounded in the attack that killed Tony and Katherine Butterfield.

Johnson was either stabbed or cut with a knife during the attack, police said in a press conference on Monday afternoon. He will likely have stab wounds on his appendages."

"There were signs at the home that whoever killed the Butterfield's may have gone through the house or taken items, police said, though it is hard for officers to determine that without reliable witnesses. The couple's children were home at the time, but since they are all under the age of 4, officers are having difficulty determining the reliability of any information from them.

The attack on Tony and Katherine took place at the back of the home, police said. Tony was found shot to death in the backyard, Katherine in the back doorway."
