Authorities said a silver sedan driven by a 14-year-old girl veered off the right side of the road, striking a guardrail, before crossing over and hitting a lane barrier on the left side of the interstate.

Ma’Khai’s godfather, Donte Walls, had a message for young people.

"Be more responsible," he said. "Stop trying to outgrow your age and just be your age. There’s nothing wrong with being a teenager. Stop thinking that you’re grown."

For the family, the loss has been devastating. “I’ve been in his life since day one. This is the hardest,” the baby's grandmother told the outlet.

She noted that her 17-year-old son is the child's father. While she expressed anger over what happened, she said she could not bring herself to hate the child’s mother, whom she identified as the 14-year-old driver.

Daddy is 17 now, mommy 14. Meaning at 15 and 12 these two kids made a baby. Sigh. I am so sorry Ma'Khai, that your parents couldn't wait to be grown and give you a chance at a life that didn't end like this. I have so many questions. What sort of support did these two kids have? 12 is so young to be pregnant??

This is pretty local to me and what's very telling is that in the comments sections I've read, not one person is calling for her to be tried and sent to prison. That's so different from almost any other case. I wonder about the mental health of the girl.

MOO I hope the 14-year-old's living conditions are very closely examined; I also wonder if this was an "accident" or an attempt to end her own life.

This is a very sad situation. It's upsetting that she was under the influence to add to this tragedy. Very young parents with no stability or guidence it seems. My prayers for the baby and family. Never should have happened. IMO
