"Police in Page County, Va., where a Hopatcong man's vehicle was found Sunday days after he was last seen at a Sparta pub, said late Thursday that all attempts to locate the 36-year-old have been unsuccessful, but noted rising flood waters have been a factor.

Ed Piccola, a Sparta High School graduate, was last seen the evening of May 30 at Krogh's Restaurant and Brew Pub in Sparta. During a family- and friend-led search to locate Piccola on May 31, a friend found Piccola's cell phone on the Lake Mohawk Boardwalk in Sparta, leading the family to file a missing persons report after Piccola also failed to show up to work.

On June 3, the Page County Sheriff's Office reported finding Piccola's Mazda on a public boat ramp in the town of Luray. On Thursday, Maj. Phil Baker of the Page County Sheriff's Office said Piccola's car was found off South Page Valley Road partially submerged in water, and responding units verified the vehicle was unoccupied.

"No persons were found in the immediate area," Baker told the New Jersey Herald Thursday, adding that the vehicle had to be pulled away from the rising water of the Shenandoah River."

Virginia officials halt search for missing Hopatcong man due to forecast
Authorities in Virginia are halting the search for a missing Hopatcong man due to the prediction of heavy rain this weekend but urged Virginia residents to be on the lookout for a blue kayak since it is believed the 36-year-old may have been on the Shenandoah River
Investigators were able to observe Piccola on security video at the Walmart around 9:30 p.m. He purchased a Sun Dolphin Phoenix 10.4 sit-in kayak, a blue life vest, a small set of camping cookware, a poncho, a whistle, a water filter and a fire starter, according to a Facebook post today by the Page County Sheriff's Office.
