I always worry when I see bipolar disorder on a missing person’s info. I have bipolar disorder, so I know what it can do to you, medicated or not. I wonder if they knew if she’d been taking her meds (if she even had meds for bipolar). I wish we knew if she seemed manic or depressive to the last people who saw her. So many things can jack with your bipolar. I’ve attempted suicide several times, so I always worry about those who’ve gone missing. Since she has autism, I really don’t know what her meds would consist of. I just hope she’s found safe. jmo

I just heard about this yesterday from a report by the local NBC affiliate, WAVY 10.

I believe I've seen her a few times in the Greenbrier YMCA where I go to swim laps. Most definitely NOT a bad area of Chesapeake. Less than a mile away are a lot of stores, including Greenbrier Mall.

Prayers going up right now for Jamile.

Only been in Chesapeake about a dozen times and the folks I know there hands down caring, good people. Anyone I've met there seemed to care about community. Be safe until then Jamile.

This is terrible!!! However we'd been led to believe Jamile was last seen in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake. Having read that she was found off Bainbridge Blvd - which is the SOUTH NORFOLK area about 6-7 miles from Greenbrier and therefore NOT Greenbrier - I questioned how she got all the way over there. So now instead of taking the media's word that she was last seen in the GREENBRIER area I looked up Grant Street and discover it is in the SOUTH NORFOLK area. Poor reporting on the part of the media. While I would not necessarily say South Norfolk is a bad area it is definitely not the type of area that Greenbrier is. The 4500 block of Bainbridge sounds likes she was found near a tributary of the Elizabeth River. Her home - if it is on Grant Street - is roughly 6.5 to 7 miles from the Greenbrier YMCA. (I don't know I was under the impression she did not drive.)

After reading all Jamile's accomplishments and what a fighter she was this is off somehow.

Her mom said she was not a wanderer. She did smoke and was outside smoking when her mom told her to get her meds. Sister came home at 11, and she wasn't there.

Would she have went for smokes? How did she end up this way?

Remarkable woman with so many awards and seems street smarts.

“Sometimes your mission and purpose finds you,” said mother and advocate Shawn Eure-Wilson. “Sometimes our mission and purpose are already written.”

Eure-Wilson’s mission began shortly after the devastating loss of her daughter Jamile Hill in October.

She pushed for new legislation to better protect missing adults with autism. The bill she fought for recently passed the House of Delegates and is expected to pass the Senate this week with the hopes of becoming enacted law by July 1, 2021.

“For so long, our friends and family members with disabilities have really been pushed to wayside,” said Eure-Wilson. “It’s long overdue.”

Jamile had autism and other developmental disabilities. When she didn’t come home one night, the Missing Child with Autism Alert did not go out. The cutoff age is 17. Jamile was 29.

Two days after her disappearance, Chesapeake police found her body. Her mom said she likely lost her balance, fell, and then drowned.

If passed, the new law would include everyone with autism regardless of age. Del. Cliff Hayes (D-Chesapeake) drafted and sponsored the legislation.

“We’re honoring the life of Jamile by making sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else,” Hayes said.

Hayes is a family friend. Introducing the bill held a deeper meaning for him.

“I attended the memorial service for Jamil. I was talking to Shawn, Jamile’s mother and she just wept, and said we have to do something about this,” said Hayes. “It just makes sense. For those familiar with autism spectrum disorder, we understand that it’s not something limited to children.”
