TARA ROSE MUNSEY: Digging up an old case that has been closed for 20+ years. Some new information has come to light in regards to some forensic evidence that brings the conviction into question. Upon further review, I am looking for anyone connected to the case or that knows anything of the victim. Case was in Radford/Dublin, Va back in 2000. <links added by Moderator>

ADMIN NOTE:
Unfortunately, this thread is problematic because:
1. It is not in the appropriate forum. “Welcome to Websleuths” is for new members to introduce themselves, but not to discuss crimes or introduce new case discussions.
2. There are not any substantiating MAINSTREAM MEDIA links in the opening post, which is a requirement for starting a new thread for a case on Websleuths.
3. From what I can piece together, it appears there has been a conviction for this crime, so it would not belong in the Cold Case forum. The person responsible was sentenced to life in prison. The most appropriate thread for this case would be
Past Trial Discussion Threads
But again. It would need to have substantiating MAINSTREAM MEDIA links to start the thread.

This thread will remain in place for 24 hours for those following to see this message, and then will be removed. A new thread can be started in the appropriate thread mentioned above as long as it meets the Websleuths requirements for opening it.

THANK YOU for your efforts to follow the Websleuths Terms of Service we all agreed to when we joined.

Hi @xoxocrimediver. Now that we’ve sorted out where your post belongs and gotten some MSM (mainstream media) links posted, :) I’m curious what the new info/forensic evidence is that brings the conviction of Tara’s killer into question…that is, if it’s available in MSM. You say are looking for info about the victim Rose Munsey.

I’ve read Jeff Thomas’s appeal which overturned his conviction. It was overturned because the appeal court found that his request for a change of venue wasn’t handled properly by the court. Subsequently, he pled guilty and agreed to a plea deal that took the death penalty off the table. None of his objections that were discounted by the appeal court changed the very strong evidence that he had killed Tara…semen, hair, shell from the gun he had possession of, DNA, etc.

While it appears that she smoked pot with Thomas and others before work that day and bought pot from him with the $5 she withdrew from the bank, and he thought she wanted sex with him…none of this would call his conviction into question. I’m not sure what anyone who knew Tara could add that could exonerate Thomas.

But if you can share anything within the Websleuths TOS (terms of service) that includes being “victim friendly,” I expect we would be interested. Has Thomas enlisted the aid of The Innocence Project? They have used DNA evidence to free innocent people. That would be a good place to start if you believe there is new evidence that calls his guilty plea into question. Hoping this helps. And again, welcome. :)
