Is it possible that this is David Abramovitz?

Missing since 2001 from NJ, cell phone was tracked to last known location of Burlington. I became familiar with David’s case last year while browsing bc he’s from my area in NJ. I have zero idea if Abramovitz is Ashkenazi but it sounds pretty close. Could someone send this in to the appropriate people? I’m brand new to this and have no idea where to begin.

I have Ashkenazi relatives with that surname (or ones similar), so it's certainly not unheard of.

Abramovitz is an Ashkenazi name, definitely

I have sent an email to the DDP regarding David Abramovitz and received an automatic reply stating they will forward the information to the team handling the case. I believe it could be him! The DDP mentioned they were unsure if he had any connection to Little Jerusalem, the Jewish neighborhood in Burlington, so it’s not confirmed that this John Doe was local and not from New Jersey.

I have checked and found two obituaries, which show that both of David's parents are of Ashkenazi origin. His maternal grandfather was a Holocaust survivor who joined the partisan resistance in Warsaw.

Just heard back from the NJSP forensic anthropologist associated with David’s case and unfortunately he has been compared and ruled out.

Thank you for this important update! In a way, I am happy it is not him. I hope David just went to live in the wild and is still alive!

I now wonder if Jay Moselsky has been excluded as well…

Can somebody kindly say if this John Doe has an exclusion list on Namus?

I will submit to the DDP Jay Moselsky, if somebody wants to submit him to the responsible law enforcement, you are more than welcome!

I actually submitted Jay Moselsky to the DDP in 2023. Also, I don’t think he is our John Doe; I believe his paternal grandmother had Norwegian or Scandinavian ancestry and this John Doe is 100% Ashkenazi. I don’t remember if it was discussed on this thread before.

Somebody asked the DDP about the development on this case, here is their response:

“The work is going slowly on this case, mainly due to a lack of genetic matches that are close enough to aid in building the family tree. The team is working with our law enforcement partners to reach out to potential family members to request they take a DNA test and upload. This will help rule in or out potential lines of the family”
