Apparently this article says the older child was a boy. But, then again, it also said the younger child was a girl when that's clearly not the case anymore, so I think it should be taken with a grain of salt. Still worth noting.

Identifinders is a great orgnization and the one with the most seniority and experience. But maybe another lab could get more useable DNA out of the samples? Technology has evolved a lot.

Identifinders is not a lab. The group outsources all testing so it is at the mercy of whatever lab they outsource too.
