WA - Amtrak passenger train derails near Tacoma

The railcars didn't meet standards adopted in 1999, but Federal regulators signed off anyway. Apparently because they were considered "safe" in low-speed (under 50mph) collisions, even though this was supposed to be a high-speed rail line with a maximum speed of 110mph.

Amtrak is incredibly scary to ride, and they don't even count accidents with vehicles as NTSB encounters worth investigating!

No one will like this, but part of the problem with Amtrak is the propensity to hire and promote based on attributes aside from actual skill, merit, and longevity.
