I saw this report initially on the news (I'm originally from Washington State and have a stepbrother that lives in NW WA not far from the park) The car was a rental. From the mother's interview she flew into Port Angeles from St Louis to go "camping". There are no commercial flights into Port Angeles. It's really never had anything more than some unscheduled charter service (which would be extremely expensive for most of us). So she would have flown into SeaTac and driven or driven/taken the ferry. Where did she rent the car from and from whom?

I have a feeling she wasn't experienced camping in this kind of environment. Any online research will warn you that the road to the trailhead where the car was found closes pretty regularly due to early snow in November, and it's a VERY wet cold season. The coat she had on in the photo would not offer any real protection, unless she picked up some heavier rain gear to supplement that at WalMart. Her footwear also, from the photo, does not look adequate for hiking, especially in very slippery (from the rain) rough terrain. Did she buy boots in addition to other things she'd need for that weather (tent, cold weight sleeping bag, heat/fire source, etc?) Hopefully LE can get a list of what she purchased at WalMart for supplies. With temps in the upper 40's in the day, and 30's at night with winter rain foreset weather, hypothermia is a real risk that time of year. https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/port-angeles/98362/november-weather/336342

If the weather had been forecast to be nice (WA can occassionally see some late arrivals of winter weather), there are some camping spots. Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort Campground, Olympic National Park - Recreation.gov. But a look at the historical NOAA radar shows the park area was seeing scattered snow flurries from the date she was seen shopping onward. Radar Data

As to the maintenance worker checklist - it sounds like that person is not a suspect but it's odd certainly. Could she have been interested in obtaining a job as a season trail maintenance worker and got a copy of the checklist by way of introduction to the duties of said position? (there are jobs for it open at USAjobs) At her age, she might have been interested in such a position, I can't think of any other easily explained reason for the checklist.

I recall seeing an unverified reports that her 'equipment was found in the car". May have been a comment on social media though.

I think the photo of her at the grocery store is interesting, she seems to have a full cart of full grocery bags. Did she buy a ton of food and hole up somewhere? The car rental is not that weird to me, she probably rented the car at seatac like most people do when visiting. JMO

I looked further at the photo of the cart - it doesn't look like much in the way camping gear. I agree with you in that the bags are normal grocery type bags, none which look large enough for serious gear. WalMart may be cheap but anyone local will tell you to go to Browns Outdoors in Port Angeles if you are serious about camping off season. Camping in the winter there requires a lot more specialized gear with a rain forest environment that can turn into full-on winter-type weather with little warning - you need layers, fleece/down, wicking base, waterproof shell, insultated boots and a sleep system upgrade (extra warm bag with insulated pads to combat cold and dampness), plus essential safety items like fire starters and navigation tools.

The rental car is Washington registered, probably picked up at Sea Tac or through a private vendor in Seattle (there are 2025 Broncos available for rent cheaper than the rental agencies at the airport if you look online).

I did find where I read that her equipment was found in the car: Mom worries about her daughter reported missing after visiting Olympic National Park in Washington

April Boulia also tells 5 On Your Side investigators found Alleacya's camping equipment and three Subway sandwiches she bought from a Washington-area Wal Mart.. April says police also found an "Olympic Park maintenance worker's checklist" and pool-related equipment "in the trunk of my daughter's rental car."

If she rented the car from a private vender (personally owned vehicle rented to others) the pool equipment might have been the owners.

I'm just wondering why there is pool gear though, especially as there was no said correlation to swimming. Sure, it's camping, she may have wanted to go swimming but not in icy, cold weather? No-one in their right mind would want to go swimming in a freezing lake. It should be a cause for suspicion because that is in no way normal. Unless she planned to stay in a hotel or somewhere with a pool, but unless it's that, it is quite odd and very concerning.

As I stated earlier - she may have rented the vehicle from a party other than the rental companies at the airport. (SEA has a number of options for cars such as the 2025 Bronco for rent other than at the terminal rental facilities). Such vehicles may be privately owned. (companies such as Turo in the Seattle area provide rental cars from local "hosts").

As such, the trunk could easily contain an article(s) from the vehicle owner or a previous renter that was forgotten.

I wonder if she is WWOOFing or doing a similar farm/camp stay. Terrible time of year for that though. That would explain the car too, she could be borrowing someone's vehicle from wherever she's staying.

The WWOFING experience is typically interactive with the hosts. She had specifically told her Mom she was going to vacation to Get Away and "Disconnect" which doesn't sound like the same experience. It's unverified but a woman has commented on one of the missing sites that she was the person from whom she rented the vehicle, so it was a rental from an individual NOT borrowed. I think she's in the forest somewhere. A young woman who had experiencing hiking in Vermont (good experience but not the same as the Olympic Range) went missing in the Fall in 2022 when the rain and cold kicked in. They have still not found her body. Article on that young woman here: Woman missing 5 days is experienced hiker | Peninsula Daily News

I wondered too about the weather. I don’t know the area at all, but it doesn’t seem like a good time of year to be hiking in a northern forest. The pool equipment sounded very suspicious, but a p2p rental makes a little more sense.

I grew up in Washington (SW) and my brother ended up in the Sequim area after retiring from the military, so not far from the Park. Much of the higher elevations is challenging, though incredibly beautiful terrain but the amount of rain is surprising, it's not known as a "rain forest" ecologically for nothing. Nov is the the rainiest month of record for the year and the trails can get extremely slick. The waterfalls as well become extremely powerful.

An update with details of the type of searches done to date - the search has now shifted to what they’re calling the clue-responsive, limited continuous phase. This means search teams will return to the field in response to new clues or developments. The investigation remains active and ongoing.. High winds (tree falling risk) prevented searching for six days, and the water levels have made it difficult to search areas around the Sol Duc river. It's a dangerous season to be out in that terrain for anyone, even those trained in SAR. Search for woman presumed missing in ONP shifts to new phase

If you look at the map in map view you can see the parking lot at the trailhead where her car was found was very close (short walk/hike) to the river. Sol Duc Trailhead · Sol Duc Rd, Port Angeles, WA 98363

TY to the OP who started this thread. I was coming to do so if one hadn't been. Angel is a relation to a member of my extended family. They are, as one would expect, worried sick. While I don't know Angel personally I can tell you this case has shaken them. Thank you for taking the time to read and share information about her case. It means a great deal to them.

I have nothing helpful to add, aside from I am praying for her mother, April.

"Boulia’s family told KOMO News there appears to be no activity on her credit cards or social media since the day they last heard from her. Boulia’s mother, April, said her daughter took the solo trip to explore the sweeping views of Olympic National Park and the Pacific Northwest."

"“I noticed that the last day she used her phone was the 18th, and the last day she used any of her credit cards was the 17th, so that's when I really just got this gut feeling that something was really, really wrong,” April Boulia said."

Sol Duc Trailhead to Enchanted Valley
Looks to be about a 39 hour walk, 87.5 miles.
Yes, I mentioned the woman that went missing in Enchanted Valley not due to any coincidence in location but rather that the overall conditions in the Natinoal Park, which covers a huge area, can be dangerous when it's "wet" season.

The pool equipment could possibly makes sense if she was with a maintenance worker employed by Aramark (the company who runs Sol Duc Resort) or depending on the equipment if she thought perhaps Sol Duc Hot Springs would be open during her visit. It is still odd though because sounds as if she didn't know anyone in the area, ie: not someone local who came hiking and met up with an employee of the lodge that they already had a pre-existing relationship with.

My kids and I try to camp/hike this area on an annual basis and there is a resort with hot springs that is open on a seasonal basis, you can easily look up their operational calendar online. Typically the resort opens mid March and closes end of October, the road usually gets shut down soon after the resort ceases seasonal operations, surprised it was still open this late into November. However W. WA has had unseasonably warm temperatures this fall. Anyhow with that said it's my understanding Aramark works with the Park Service to winterize and close down the resort/roads.

Cell phone service is basically non-existent in this area unless you have Starlink however with Verizon I've noticed one spot in the campground last year we were able to shockingly send a text to a friend. Cell phone service used to be completely dead almost immediately after leaving 101 but we noticed on our last visit we picked up a signal good enough to text about halfway out.

It all does feel very strange and reminiscent of the gal who went missing hiking in the Enchanted Valley a few years back, Laura Macke. Although one main key difference is the trail to Sol Duc falls is VERY easy, nearly no elevation gain, like a trail my kids have been able to accomplish since toddler age. So unless she pressed on further it should have been an easy in/out day trip from Port Angeles to the area. I believe both camping loops close with the gates down simultaneously to Sol Duc Resort closing but she could have car camped in the large parking lot before the trailhead or at the RV camping spots, these are very close to the resort and rental cabins operated by Aramark, but again all would have been closed upon her arrival.

One more note for anyone not from the area, with the road open I can't imagine nobody else would have visited during the time period she was unaccounted for, this is a completely paved road all the way until the end of it, where the trailhead starts, it's about 15 miles one way. If her rental vehicle was actually there for two weeks someone absolutely would have noticed it. The first thing I take note of when heading out for winter recreational activities is the other vehicles around me.

It's all fairly bizarre and doesn't add up because there are definitely campgrounds open year round that would make way more sense to visit than trying to camp somewhere essentially closed for the season. Also most tourists do a loop of the 101 heading west from Port Angeles, so Sol Duc logically would be a day destination and then onward to somewhere like Mora campground (open year round), Ruby Beach, Hoh Rainforest, Quinault area, etc.

I'm scared to assume if that is the case, maybe it was placed there later, but it wouldn't make sense on why stuff was left in there. It would've made more sense if it was taken, the person would've taken stuff out but obviously, that is not the case. Maybe no-one could've simply gonna down that area but that would be merely impossible. The only way this would work out is if someone had taken her and placed the car later or if she had gone out willingly and no-one noticed or reported it? It doesn't physically make sense otherwise, but pool gear with the assistant makes sense, but if she had an assistant, where have they gone or why haven't they said anything? Besides from the point, I hope there will be more evidence found because it seems that this case is coming to a dead end. Love for Angel ❤️

Yes, I agree, it really doesn't add up at all. Seems very unlikely nobody would have noticed the car there, if the vehicle was present entire duration of time from when she was last in contact with family and date it was found, that would have been over a weekend and it's such a popular trail/destination, even in the fall/winter. I'm curious if her phone was discovered left in the rental vehicle or is also missing?

Honestly the pool gear is weird unless she was with a maintenance person or someone who worked on the pool/springs/property because I have visited many times and we never bring gear beyond bathing suits/towels. I think the maintenance list is also an odd thing to find in her vehicle. Hopefully law enforcement processed everything well and her family will find some answers soon.

There also isn't really anywhere dangerous to go off trail unless you're at the waterfall but plenty of great spots for pictures staying on trail. I have hiked this trail in flip-flops and also in knee high Hunter boots (poor choice for rainy October weather) so yes maybe she didn't have the best of footwear or outerwear but again with the duration and ease of the trail I have a hard time understanding how someone could simply disappear.

I've read some comments about bears and cougars, sure they're around the area but they know this is a high volume human traffic area, it's not grizzly country, so the likelihood of a cougar attack is very rare. I also wonder what condition her camping gear was found in? Was it wet? Noticeably used? Seems like she came for the day, planned on hiking, coming back and having lunch or taking lunch on her hike, given the sandwiches that were found and then maybe camping and having dinner, another sandwich and heading out the following day. I don't understand what happened, I wonder if she even made it on the trail?

I'm still thinking the pool gear was from the rental as it appears to be rented from a private individual. The trail normally is pretty easy, but SAR was stating that the water levels made it very hard for them to search along the river. I know if you leave the parking area and head down towards the river, there's a couple of spots the trail is very close to the water IF the water levels are high. A slip and fall is possible. As to the car being seen? Where she parked is a couple miles from the resort which was closed. There might have been a few day hikers, but I don't think there would be many overnight campers that time of year. So if someone came in for a day hike, the vehicle there would appear to be another day hiker and not something one would note.

Cougars usually hunt at dawn and dusk, so unlikely she would have encountered one during the day, I can't see her going out there super early or near dark. By Nov I would think most bears might be hunkered down.

There's no mention that she stayed at a hotel on arrival in Port Angeles, so she would have had to land at SeaTac (depiste what her Mom said, she couldn't have flown on a commercial flight into Port Angeles). So she would have landed at SeaTac procured the vehicle and then traveled to Port Angles, (or taken the ferry/bus to Port Angeles and THEN rented the vehicle). She then went shopping and to the park. I wish we had a timeline of her travel from landing to arrival at the Park and confirmation of where and from whom she got the vehicle, that would clear up some questions. The Subway sandwiches (3) she purchased were in the vehicle with the gear so she wouldn't have had time to USE the camping gear IMO, as otherwise she would have consumed some of the food.

My only thoughts at this point are she met with foul play by a stranger on arrival (rare, but it can happen) or she went scouting on foot before unloading her car, and ended up in the river by accident. Neither outcome is good.

I thought the car was rented at the airport? I swear I read on a Facebook post that the woman who rented her the car from the airport remembered her.

Hopefully they can maybe pinpoint where her cell phone last pinged, there's not much service out there, very spotty the entire drive along Lake Crescent. Seems like her cell phone was not found in the vehicle?

From what I read she arrived in WA on November 6 and family last heard from her on November 17 so where did she stay during that time period and who did she potentially meet? Did she camp? Stay in a hotel? I have many questions! However, like you said the outcomes are not looking positive at this point. Very unfortunate.
