Identified! WA - Cornet Bay, N Whidbey, WhtMale early to mid-30s, Nov'21 - John Romankiewicz

Investigators are trying to identify the body of a man discovered on a Cornet Bay beach on North Whidbey.

The deceased white male appeared to be in his early to mid-30s. He was 6 feet tall, about 180 pounds, clean shaven and had a receding hairline. He was wearing jeans, a light jacket, hiking boots and a very thin gold band on his ring finger.

A beach walker found the debris-covered body at the water’s edge. It’s unclear at this point whether the body washed ashore from elsewhere or he died on the beach and was covered with seaweed and other debris from the tide. It doesn’t appear that the body was in the water very long.

There is no evidence that he may have jumped off Deception Pass Bridge, she said. No vehicles believed to be associated with the man were found parked at Cornet Bay or the bridge.

Based on the man’s clothing, investigators don’t think he was a kayaker.

Hi all. I believe this may be the husband of one of the professors at my university - his name was John Romankiewicz, from Bellingham, WA. He went missing on 11/8 in the York Neighborhood of Bellingham, where he lived with his wife. Someone on his Facebook group posted the link to the Whidbey News-Times article late last night, thinking it was him as he fits the physical description and the clothing descriptions match. Earlier today, just a few hours ago, someone on his Facebook group confirmed that his body was recovered and that he is deceased.

I am not 100% sure that this UID is John Romankiewicz, but he probably is.

Here's a photo of John Romankiewicz. He is a 38-year-old 6'2 white male with a thin build, blue eyes, short brown hair with a receded hairline, no facial hair, and he presumably wore a wedding band, since he was married. He also wore glasses. He was last seen on the 8th, as I mentioned, and was wearing a gray jacket, jeans, and hiking boots, as well as a beanie hat. He left his phone and other belongings behind at home when he disappeared. Based off what his wife said about him it seems this was very out of character for him. So again, we have to wait a bit to get confirmation that he was the body found on North Whidbey, but it is looking like it is probably him.

There's still no news on if the North Whidbey body was identified, but more articles about John Romankiewicz being found deceased are emerging, although none have publicly linked him to the North Whidbey body.

According to John Romankiewicz's Facebook page, this UID is actually NOT him, and it was identified as someone else. No word on the ID or COD yet. I'll look for MSM sources.

The body of a man found at Cornet Bay on North Whidbey Nov. 9 has been identified as a missing Bellingham man, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

John Romankiewicz went missing Nov. 8 from his York neighborhood home in Bellingham.

That's strange - people on his group were saying a couple days ago that it WASN'T him, after everyone thought it was since he fit the description perfectly. Not sure what's up with that. Either way, I'm glad it's resolved.
