Johnson played defensive end for the Fighting Irish from 2008-10, logging 83 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks. He was a four-star recruit out of Portland, Oregon in the 2008 class.

Our thoughts are with all those close to Johnson during this concerning time.

I wonder if his traumatic brain injury was caused by playing football.

Still missing. According to the Sports Illustrated article linked below, the Vancouver police originally gave inaccurate information about his mental health and have corrected their report.

The linked Daily Mail article gives information about the concussion he received while playing football.

Former Notre Dame football player Ethan Johnson has been reported missing in the state of Washington, according to Vancouver (Wash.) police.

Local police corrected their original report that erroneously claimed Johnson was dealing with mental health issues.

"The communication released at that time included some medical and mental health information, that after further consultation with the family, was deemed to be incorrect," police said in a statement. "We apologize for any misinformation that was released."

He tried to enter NFL as an undrafted free agent, but suffered a significant concussion as he attempted to make the Kansas City Chiefs' roster in 2013. Johnson was later listed as a plaintiff in the class-action concussion lawsuits against the NFL.

Getting fired from my first job because of a concussion still leaves a bad taste in my mouth,' Johnson told Rolling Stone in 2014. 'I went to Kansas City's camp and I felt like I was doing alright and then I got injured. I was concussed. I was technically still concussed and still under doctor's care when they released me. The GM and the coach said they hadn't seen enough to keep me.

'It was a punt drill, one-on-one and I just took a hit to the helmet and got knocked on my butt,' he said, describing the injury. 'I didn't get knocked out. A lot of people think you have to get knocked out to get a concussion. Not true. I was just dazed and my head hurt.'

He ultimately returned to his high school, where he worked as a tutor.

The Sergio Brown case currently in the news made me think about Ethan Johnson who has been missing from Vancouver, WA since October 2022. Ethan Johnson and Sergio Brown were both on the same Notre Dame team for a time. Ethan suffered a career-ending concussion when he was an undrafted rookie with the Kansas City Chiefs, and he was a plaintiff in a class action suit against the NFL.

The week after Ethan Johnson went missing there was a lot of publicity in MSM, but there have been no updates since then. Presumably he is still missing. He is not in NamUs.

Poor guy.
I'm of an unpopular opinion American football should be outlawed due to these horrible events that so-often involve head injuries.
