Eugene Wekesa, a Crossroads-area resident from Kenya, left his home around 9 p.m. Wednesday without his wallet, cellphone or keys, and he has been missing since.

"According to the family, he is a good student at BCC; he's been labeled as a homebody, goes to school, comes home, does his homework, will frequent the nearby library and Barnes & Noble bookstore, and has a weekend and nighttime job at a local assisted-living facility," said Detective Tory Mangione.

Eugene Wekesa missing: Police and family ask for help more than 4 years after Bellevue College student disappears

It’s been more than four and a half years since a Bellevue College student disappeared.

[snip]

Bellevue police Det. Tory Mangione says Eugene’s disappearance is unusual.

“There is no evidence whatsoever to indicate foul play,” Mangione said.

His bank account hasn’t been touched and he didn’t pack anything or take his wallet.

“He walked away with nothing other than the clothes that he was wearing,” he said.

Eugene simply vanished somewhere between his apartment and the Crossroads Mall, which is only a few hundred yards away. Police checked area hospitals, jails and even looked to see if he’d gotten a driver’s license somewhere else.

[snip]

Eugene’s trail has simply gone cold.

New effort to solve cold cases in Bellevue

http://www.kirotv.com/news/news/daughter-missing-bellevue-woman-has-new-hope/np7tL/

Wekesa was a student at Bellevue College. He told his mother he was headed to Crossroads Mall. His family says he was never seen on surveillance video at the mall. He hasn't been seen since.

His sister, Sharon Musebe, was pleased to hear her brother's case was getting the attention of a new cold case detective. "It is better to know something that to not know anything, " said Musebe, "That's what we've wanted all along -- just answers, any answer." She said she just wants him to come home.

Eugene Wekesa missing: Police and family ask for help more than 4 years after Bellevue College student disappears — FOX13 Seattle (July 26, 2014)
<snipped & BBM>
It was the day before Thanksgiving and started normally with Eugene studying. When his mom came home from shopping for groceries, Eugene was on the couch doing homework. His mom realized she'd forgotten something at the store, so Eugene took the car to Safeway. These are surveillance photos of him entering and leaving by himself. When he got back to the apartment, he'd forgotten another item for Thanksgiving dinner.

I used to live in the area at the time and went to the Crossroads mall quite frequently. I’ve been in the Safeway he was captured on surveillance camera at numerous times, as well as the library and bookstore he went to. Aside from the Barnes and Noble, there was also a discount secondhand bookstore called Half Price Books inside the mall on the end closest to the Safeway IIRC.

Details of Disappearance

Wekesa was last seen leaving his apartment in the 15200 block of northeast 16th Place in Bellevue, Washington at 9:00 p.m. on November 24, 2010, the night before Thanksgiving Day. He said he was going to walk to the nearby Crossroads Shopping Center. Surveillance cameras at the shopping center never filmed him there that night, however.

He left all his belongings behind at home, including his wallet, keys and cellular phone, and has never been heard from again.

Wekesa is originally from Kenya and moved to the United States about five years prior to his disappearance. He was a student at Bellevue Community College and worked nights and weekends at a local assisted living facility. His mother and brother, whom he lived with, said he studied hard, frequented the local library and bookstore, and didn't socialize very much.

Although there's no evidence of foul play in his disappearance, it's uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning. His case remains unsolved.
