*PRESS RELEASE/MISSING PERSON*

10/17

The Auburn Police Department is actively investigating the suspicious disappearance of 21-year-old Jackelin Perez, who went missing on the evening of October 13.

Jackelin, who is six weeks pregnant, recently immigrated from Guatemala with her husband and speaks limited English.

Detectives believe there is credible evidence suggesting that Jackelin was taken from her home under duress, and they do not believe this was random.

The police are diligently pursuing multiple leads but have not yet located her.

The Auburn Police Department urges the public to assist in the search for Jackelin. She is 5’4, 111 pounds, and has a scar on her left cheek.

If you or anyone you know has information regarding her whereabouts, please contact the Auburn PD Tip Line at 253-288-7403.

Auburn Police say Jackelin’s husband contacted them Monday morning, reporting her missing. Investigators believe she was taken from her home between 6 and 7 p.m. on Sunday under duress.

Her husband, who was not home at the time, discovered her missing approximately 20 minutes after the incident but did not notify authorities until the following day.

This is quite suspicious, imo. Why did the husband wait to report Jackelin missing?

ETA: The husband was NOT home when Jacklin went missing, my bad.

The wife is taken "under duress" yet the husband doesn't report her missing until the next day. Perhaps he had a fear of the police, having come here from Guatemala, but I can't imagine NOT alerting them. If (and that's only an IF, no proof of anything has been noted) he was involved with something illegal his wife may have been taken in retaliation for some activity, another reason perhaps for not immediate notification. But the whole scenario is very troubling. Nothing on Facebook for her except the missing news articles and comments. Don't know where her "selfie" that is the missing photo came from, I'm, assuming sent to her husband, and thus he has shared.

KOMO News also asked if Perez’s husband was a suspect and if he was cooperating with the investigation.

"As of right now we haven’t ruled anything out, so we’re looking into everything in this case," Crossly responded.

Detectives have not ruled out any suspects.

I wonder how the husband knows at what time she was abducted….

He may have been texting with her or talked to her on the phone so he knew what time she was last at home before he arrived there. Or possibly there is a Ring doorbell or similar? I hope LE has been contacting neighbors to look for video footage of her leaving the house under duress. How scary!

Some thoughts on what might have occurred. It sounds like something was going on in the home. Either Jackelin or someone else called the husband. He arrives home twenty minutes later and she is gone.

Police refer to an “incident” that occurred. That was evidently Jackelin being taken against her will. Husband waits 24 hours to report her missing.

The couple had just moved to Auburn four months ago. LE is not calling this a kidnapping - rather saying she was taken under duress. Does that mean whoever took her is a stranger or known to them? Why wouldn’t this be a kidnapping if she was taken against her will?

Model Penal Code §212.1 defines kidnapping as follows:
“A person is guilty of kidnapping if he unlawfully removes another from his place of residence or business, or a substantial distance from the vicinity where he is found, or if he unlawfully confines another for a substantial period in a place of isolation, with any of the following purposes:

  • to hold for ransom or reward, or as a shield or hostage; or
  • to facilitate commission of any felony or flight thereafter; or
  • to inflict bodily injury on or to terrorize the victim or another; or
  • to interfere with the performance of any governmental or political function.
The term duress is often used when the defendant is coerced to engage in unlawful conduct by the threat or use of unlawful physical force of such degree that a person of reasonable firmness could not resist. It is used as well for someone who is forced to commit a crime. In establishing a defense of durression (or coercion) a defendant must show s/he was under an unlawful threat of such nature as to induce an apprehension of death or serious bodily injury.

I’m guessing she left the house under her own power but under a threat that to stay could result in harm which is why LE is using that term instead of kidnapping.

No person of interest has been named as of Friday afternoon, he tells PEOPLE.
"We’re looking at pretty much anyone as a suspect," he says. Meanwhile, police are actively looking for leads from the public.

"It could be something really small like you might have seen her on a bus,” Crossley previously said, per KOMO News. “Even if it’s just a glimpse and you don’t really know, just give us a call, a general location of where you saw the person and we can look into it.”

Perez is 5 ft., 4 in., weighs 111 lb. and has a scar on her left cheek, Auburn police said in their statement.

Kolby Crossley with the Auburn Police Department said authorities are trying to find 21-year-old Jacqueline Perez.

Police believe Perez was taken from her home under duress between 6 and 7 p.m. on Oct. 13.

Perez recently moved to Auburn from Guatemala with her husband. Police said she speaks limited English and is six weeks pregnant.

They also said Perez’s husband did not contact them about her disappearance until the morning after she went missing.

Crossley said the husband has not yet ruled him out as a suspect.

“We’re not necessarily saying he is, but we’re also not saying he’s not,” he said.

Perez has brown hair and brown eyes. She stands 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 100 pounds. She also has a scar on her left cheek.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact police immediately.

A thread for this missing young woman was started on Saturday. What you've posted is great info but I think it has already been linked. Perhaps a mod can merge the threads (not sure how that works).

K5 / KING 5 is reporting a suspect has been arrested in this case. Online K5 October 22, 2024 article by Mia Hunt entitled ‘Arrest made in pregnant Auburn woman's disappearance, police believe more people are involved’:

Sadly it seems that JP is still missing IIUC? And note that there are differing spellings of her name it seems:

Jacqueline Perez
Jackelin Perez

She was found safe in Mexico. LE says she was a victim of illegal activity that she was not involved in.

I thought it was interesting that the article stated they are working with Guatamalan Authorities to get her home. Makes me think she is going back to family in Guatamala rather than her husband in Auburn. I wish this young woman all the help she needs to recover whatever she's been through.
