Local parents reignite pleas to find missing children

In the State of Washington there are dozens of missing children cases that have gone cold. Parents were out in Tumwater Saturday, reigniting their pleas for the public to keep a watchful eye out for their missing sons and daughters.

[snip]

At the event, missing children Teekah Lewis, Kayla Croft-Payne, Kelsey Collins, Danica Childs, and Lindsey Baum were also represented by their families.

Frustration Mounts Five Years After Woman’s Disappearance
April 28, 2015 11:32 am

snipped
It’s been five years since Kayla Croft-Payne disappeared, but she is still very much present in the minds of her family and their supporters.

A little more than two dozen people withstood the blustery weather on Sunday to remember Croft-Payne, who has been missing since April 28, 2010, at a vigil near Penny Playground in Chehalis.

A heavy silence hung in the air during much of the event, but several people in the group made impassioned pleas for anyone with knowledge of her disappearance to come forward.

“I find it hard to believe in five years time nobody knows anything, nobody said anything or heard anything,” said Odessa Minor, a vigil attendee and president of Search and Seek, an organization that raises awareness and attempts to locate the missing.

I happened to come across this while searching for something else, posted today.

VANCOUVER — The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s office says an 18-year-old woman reported missing five years ago likely died of an accidental drug overdose and was buried in a remote area of Oregon.
...
The Lewis County sheriff’s office had worked the case for years but recently transferred it after receiving new information that Croft-Payne likely died in an RV park in Cowlitz County shortly after she was reported missing.

Rosenzweig says detectives have identified the people they believe buried her body in Oregon. He says the office isn’t seeking charges against anyone at this time. They’re interested in returning the woman’s body to her parents.

Croft-Payne’s parents were notified on the developments in the case.

In 2013, investigators received a tip that Croft-Payne had been killed and buried or thrown down a well at a location in Winlock, Washington. Two days of searching at that time, including draining a 35-foot well, did not reveal any new clues about her disappearance.

Lewis and Cowlitz county investigators recently used cadaver dogs and heavy equipment to search the woods in Northwest Oregon for a teenager who vanished five years ago and who is believed to have died from a drug overdose.

Searchers failed to find the remains of Kayla Croft-Payne, an 18-year-old Chehalis-area woman who disappeared in May 2010. But recent information has detectives more optimistic they can solve the case.

“We got a tip from an individual about a month ago about where her body may be buried. We think it is credible. We looked and did not find anything, but it is enough for us to go public and try to reach people who have not talked to us about the case,” said Charlie Rosenzweig, chief criminal deputy for Cowlitz County..."
