Homicide detectives investigating after woman’s body found near Auburn
AUBURN, Wash. -- Authorities have launched a homicide investigation after a woman's body was discovered along a road near Auburn.

Pierce County Sheriff's Department detectives say the woman was killed somewhere else and dumped at 24th St Ct E and 169th Ave in the Lakeland Hills area shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities are working to identify the victim, but it may take time because the suspects tried to light the woman's body on fire.

The victim is in her late 20s to early 30s.

Woman's body found dumped in neighborhood near Lake Tapps; suspects at large

Investigators say the woman was killed at a different location and dumped at the scene, where the suspects tried to light her body on fire.

"Whether someone was trying to cover up the evidence or thinking she would burn away we really not sure yet," said Detective Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said video from the neighborhood revealed two cars leaving the area, but right now they have not released many details or vehicle descriptions

BONNEY LAKE, Wash. - The Pierce County Sheriff's Department arrested a suspect Wednesday night after searching for a man they believe may have been involved in the killing of a woman whose burned body was found in the Lake Tapps area.

An infant was found alive, abandoned inside her home.

Victim Linda Sweezer, 64, was found partially burned along a Lake Tapps area road on Tuesday, according to investigators. A search was underway for 25-year-old Lance Rougeau Wednesday afternoon; deputies report he is involved in the homicide, but they did not give specifics.
Officials said Wednesday night Rougeau had been found and taken into custody without incident.

The man suspected of killing a Kent woman and dumping her body in a Lake Tapps neighborhood was arrested on Wednesday evening.

Kent Police working in conjunction with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department took 25-year-old Lance Rougeau into custody without incident at an apartment complex on Benson Road SE in Kent. More details on his arrest are expected to be released Thursday.

Detectives identified the victim as 64-year-old Linda Sweezer, of Kent. They believe Rougeau killed Sweezer at her home in Kent and then abandoned a four-month-old baby who was in her crib inside the home.
Detectives believe the child was home at the time of the murder. They say Rougeau killed Sweezer, then left the child behind, drove to Lake Tapps, and allegedly dumped Sweezer's body and tried to set her remains on fire.
Sweezer was caring for the infant before her death and was in the process of obtaining legal custody of her, according to police. So far, investigators say they've found nothing that connects the suspect to Sweezer, the baby, or the baby's mother.
Sweezer was an active member of the Kent Black Action Commission. The organization posted a message on its Facebook page on Wednesday, saying they lost a dedicated and loyal member who will be greatly missed.
