Circumstances of Recovery The victim was found floating in the Lake Washington Ship Canal quarter mile west of the Aurora Bridge. He shopped or dined in Fremont shortly before his death. The owner of M&S deli on North 36th street remembered seeing the man coming into the store two or three times, he thought the man lived lived in the area because he never saw him driving a car. There was no wallet, identification or watch. He could have been been robbed, or it could have been a gangland hit. Because his clothes were not ripped it is believed he did not jump from the bridge. Police think the man was murdered, although accidental drowning is listed as the cause of death because there were no wounds or evidence to prove otherwise.

Thayne Alan Smika

I think there is a resemblance to Thayne Smika, but it is thought he fled to Mexico. His car was found abandoned in Hollywood in late 1986. Thayne Smika if in the US in 1987 would have likely been living under a false name. Not wanting to be recognized could explain why his beard vanished and hair changed, although the photo of him is from 1983, a few years before he vanished. Smika sounds like probably a a Czech last name? The unidentified man a distinct Mediterranean look. I guess that doesn't really fit.

Even though his car was in Hollywood, there are many ways to travel, including train or heck stealing another car. He could have left it there to deliberately mislead investigators.

I wonder if there are other pictures/photos of there UID. The Mediterranean look is basically a dark Caucasian look. Definitely can have phenotypical facial features, but not 100% distinct. While his last name might we identified as Czech, we dont know his genealogical history as well.

I wish we had phots or other pictures of the UID.Here's another picture of him.
