Teekah Lewis’s Disappearance from Tacoma, Washington, haunts family 26 years later

The two-year-old was taken from a bowling alley in Tacoma, Washington on January 23, 1999.

Sergeant Julie Deir told Dateline that she’s hopeful, one day, they’ll find out what happened to Teekah. “With every day that passes, it gets harder and harder, obviously, so we really would like to get some answers for Theresa and her family,” she said. “But it’s gonna require somebody saying something.”

Theresa lives in Virginia now, but every year she holds a vigil in Washington to celebrate Teekah’s life. She couldn’t get back to Washington this year, so she held it online. “This will be the first year I don’t have a candlelight vigil for my daughter back home,” she said.

Cold case tip prompts excavation of Tacoma backyard, large police response

TACOMA, Wash. — A significant police presence has been seen in a Tacoma neighborhood for hours Monday as authorities respond to a cold case tip.

The police activity is centered around a home on the 3200 block of South Gunnison Street, near South Wright Avenue. Authorities have been on the scene since about 8 a.m.

This search is being done on a house not too far from the bowling alley where Teekah was taken. It is really echoing another case that has been updated recently, Asha Degree.

I hope both Asha and Teekah come home very soon.

I just watched an interview on Fox News with Teekahs mom and she believes it’s related to Teekah in her words. The fact that cadaver dogs were there and now they’ve got this huge excavation going on two weeks later makes me believe that there was possibly a hit with the cadaver dogs and they’ve got something or someone.

Idk. I think they have something but that’s just my opinion. They brought cadaver dogs two weeks ago and then came back to dig so that tells us something. And they did an initial like dig and then brought in the cavalry.

I hope this leads to answers in a case. It's just awful when families have to wait and hope and then end up back at square one.

I think if they found remains, there would be a tent with full sides put up so that no one could see a thing, and a ME van would arrive. If anything like that happens, it would be quite a day.

My speculation is that they collected soil to test, which is interesting.

Tacoma PD confirmed today the excavation was a tip regarding Teekah and ultimately resulted in them finding nothing when they dug everything up, which is super disappointing. I hope her mother gets answers someday.
