No opinion on Soto's involvement, I'm afraid, but the "Charlie Chop-off" moniker has to be one of the worst ever coined in terms of inflicting further humiliation on victims. I recall first hearing it as a kid, and thinking it was a ghoulish cartoon character. Still shiver-inducing, and I suspect the novel The Alienist was influenced by this case, along with the crimes of Albert Fish.
