An author who is married to a member of the rock band Weezer was arrested for attempted murder after allegedly pointing a handgun at officers who were pursuing a hit-and-run suspect near her home in Los Angeles, police said.

Jillian Shriner, also known as Jillian Lauren, was shot by police during the incident, suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

She is the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner.

"As the officers were in the rear yard of that residence, they observed a female, later identified as 51-year-old Jillian Shriner, in the yard of a neighboring residence armed with a handgun," the LAPD said in a press release on Wednesday. "The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times; however, she refused."

Police fired at Shriner after she allegedly pointed her handgun at the officers, striking her, the LAPD said. Police did not say if she fired her gun.

She went into her home but later emerged and was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

She was absentee booked for attempted murder, police said.

A 9-mm handgun was recovered from her home, according to police.

Will be curious to see the body cam footage because it sounds pretty cut and dried. If the footage backs up the above information she should be held to the same consequences you or I would be. JMO

Which would not be attempted murder, though. Unless she shot the weapon. I think the charges that will stick will be more like brandishing, resisting, assault on a police officer.
Her actions would be a bit more understandable if the cops had been in her backyard. And if the cops did not identify themselves.
Alcohol may have been involved in this.

Wrong thread?
She’s the topic of the thread.

Background: On Nov. 25, 2020, serial killer Samuel Little subpoenaed journalist Jillian Lauren Shriner, requiring her to disclose unpublished communications with her sources. The subpoena was tied to the prosecution of Little in connection with the murder of a woman in San Bernardino, California.

Shriner spent more than three years investigating cold cases and building rapport with Little. As a result of that rapport, Little confessed to Shriner to dozens of murders that he committed over the course of four decades. Her reporting on those confessions helped inform the public about Little’s murders and explain how the serial killer evaded law enforcement for so long.

A trial court in California compelled Shriner to comply with the subpoena. The journalist then filed an emergency appeal of the trial court’s order with the California Court of Appeal on Dec. 23, and the Reporters Committee filed an application to submit an amicus brief in support of her on the same day, which included the proposed amicus brief.

In a Wednesday night news conference, Detective Meghan Aguilar said that it was not clear from body-worn police video what happened in the moments before the shooting, or whether she fired at officers.

"At that point there were some commands given, multiple commands to drop the gun, drop the weapon, unfortunately it did result in an officer-involved shooting," she said.

Aguilar said that police body-worn police camera had not provided "a clear view of what she did with that firearm" or said it was "not clear if she fired at officers or not."

I don't see these charges sticking MOO

A crash on the 134 Freeway started a chaotic chain of events in Eagle Rock on Tuesday after a homeowner who shot at a group of people fleeing the scene of a collision and allegedly tried to break into her home was shot by police

I'm wondering if this is why she was charged with attempted murder.

I don't think pointing a gun at someone and not firing would be considered attempted murder.

Fair enough, sorry, I had obviously missed that she went by Lauren as a surname as well as Shriner in the first post. My bad.

What's with these police shootin' my girl?/
Why do they gotta front? (Doweeooweeoo)/
What did she ever do to these cops/
That made them so violent?

ETA- Rivers’ lyrics just happen to ask the questions that we need answers to in this case!
"I never thought it'd come to this; now I can never go home."

Weezer bassist Scott Shriner is still set to perform with the band at Coachella despite an incident earlier this week where his wife was shot by police and arrested on attempted murder charges.

I don't see the attempted murder charges sticking unless something else comes out. It doesn't seem clear at this point if she even fired her gun. I wonder what her reasoning was, not dropping the gun? It was obvious to me they were cops. As Gitana mentioned, I wonder if alcohol or drugs were involved?

She's bonded out. I find it odd that her husband is full steam ahead for Coachella after such a traumatic event.

ETA: DM article quotes a police spokesperson and she did fire the gun.

'Our investigation revealed evidence such as shell casing and video footage showing she repeatedly ignored police commands to disarm and that she fired her weapon at LAPD officers,' spokeswoman Jennifer Forkish confirmed to PEOPLE.
