WeightWatchers has filed for bankruptcy in the US as it struggles with debt and fierce competition from fat-loss jabs like Ozempic and Mounjaro.

The legal process will see $1.15bn (£860mn) of the 60-year-old diet brand's debt written off while it agrees new terms for paying back its lenders.

WeightWatchers said it will remain "fully operational" during the process with "no impact to members".

It follows the meteoric rise in popularity of weight loss injections in what the firm said was a "rapidly changing weight management landscape".

I know some people who lost weight on this program, but they gained it all back, and then some after they went off it.

Very few people who lose weight by conventional means keep the weight off long term. The problem seems to be that once they have reached their target weight they go back to "normal" eating - ignoring the fact that their "normal" eating is what made them fat in the first place.

Conventional weight loss will only work long term if those on such progammes use the weight loss period to genuinely change their eating patterns and wider lifestyle.
