Ok here goes..... I know of a husband and wife who's 2 children (a son and a daughter) seem to have vanished. The children would now be in their late 30s- early 40s and were both in school with my partners cousins. After leaving school their friends didnt hear from them so tried to make contact by knocking the door of the property. The mother was very uncooperative and told them simply that they were not there, although a glimpse of someone was seen trying to peer through the curtains. Yes I understand that this alone does not mean anything untoward has happened. Shortly after, again another attempt was made to make contact with the daughter. The mother stated that the daughter had become mentally ill and that the drs had told her to move close to the sea to make her better??? (Would a dr really advise this as treatment) Both children in school seemed to be healthy happy kids with no sign of mental illness. As the mother said that her daughter had moved away this resulted in the friends not trying to contact her again at the property and a while later the mother started to tell people in the area that the daughter had suddenly died. There was no funeral and there was no obituary in the local paper. The son also seemed to vanish again the parents told people he became mentally ill and would not leave the house. The house is in a severe state of disrepair and over the years the parents have parked lots of old 4x4s very tightly across the front of the house, almost like a barricade. If you go to knock the door you are greeted with lots of notes stuck to the door with sellotape warning you not to knock as there is a 'night worker' living at the property. Neither of the parents work and no one else has ever been seen going in or out. The back of the property can not be seen from the road, however I myself have access to view the back of the house. There seem to be bars on the back window. Multiple neighbours have said that the son is inside and has been for 20 plus years. Apparently the parents go there early hours of the morning to feed him. This all sounds very strange and far fetched, but I have a terrible feeling that something bad has happened. I could be completely wrong and the daughter may have died and the son may indeed be unwell. I contacted the police to state my concerns, they did not investigate if there are records of the daughters death at all, as far as I am aware. But did make a house call to check on the welfare of the son. The parents would not invite the police in and the police said they were very evasive. The parents said that the son was working away as a contractor in the cotswolds but could not provide any address for him. With persuasion they gave the police a phone number- it was a dead number! The police then tried to contact them again. The parents told them that one of their neighbours at another property they own had recently met the son. Conveniently after no one has seen him for 20 plus years. The police spoke to this neighbour who confirmed yes they had introduced them to a man that they claimed to be their son. The police then said that they cannot investigate the matter further without any substantial evidence. Surely they could have passed a message on to the son to pop into the police station with I.d. searched death, NHS, hmrc, dental records etc for both the individuals. The police said they cant search the house as they cannot do so without reasonable grounds, i understand this entirely. They did say on the phone to my partner that no doubt when the parents are long gone and someone accesses the property they will find something. The parents started to tidy up the property after having complaints from neighbours about the scrap vehicles parked all around it and in doing so and exposing the property they then immediately boarded the windows at the front. I wish to look into this further myself as I have been feeling uneasy about this for the last few years. I hope the son and daughter are ok and have not come to any harm. I dont know how I can access records like the police should of done or if there is anyone out there that can PLEASE PLEASE help. I have uploaded an image of the back of the property and what look like bars on the window.

Have you thought of getting a drone to scope it out? You could get closer than your eyes with that? Could you report hearing screams or gunshots or yelling to instigate a need to search property? I know those seem crazy but when there is concern in your gut pay attention to it. It’s not like you would benefit from there being anything wrong you are worried and sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures and maybe a white lie but your intensions are good! And definitely I would want you hunting for me. You are genuine and sincere it seems

Another idea: Face book?

I don't "do" Facebook, but there are pages for missing people. Could you set up a Facebook page for each of the two, with any pictures you have, and ask for contact?

If the son is truly working in the Cotswolds, someone may tell him to respond to the page.

Or, someone with 'connections' may become curious?

I do get a lot of exercise jumping to conclusions....

Best UK advice on the planet:

Friend from school calls LE for a welfare check? Makes request in person with copies of newspaper articles about Margaret Fleming?

eta correct spelling!

The similarities to the margaret Fleming case are uncanny and send a shiver down my spine. I dont want to post on facebook as it's a sensitive subject and if my suspicions are wrong this could cause great anguish to any family etc.

But thank you for the replies and suggestions. I'll look into the friend from school and discuss with them if they would he happy to get involved or not.

I am afraid that I would get in trouble with authorities but I have certainly considered it. The trouble is these people have several houses around the place. Sometimes they stay at one property and sometimes at another. They are all properties in a terrible state of disrepair. It's hard to say if son or daughter is inside a property, which one they would now be in? I have a feeling since the police went sniffing around last time that if indeed either one was in that particular property (the one pictured) they could now have moved them to a different property that they own.

@Angleterre , thank you so much, you are now on my list for best UK advice!

@Crimecat10 , more of a Facebook page saying "I knew Crime Cat in school, can't find her, she must be married & using her married name, this is a picture of her in 1995, do you know her?"

Not anything accusatory, just I can't find this brother & sister & would like to talk with them.

JMHO YMMV

Best, Laughing

Thank you that's a really good idea, I need to try and find pictures of them both first, maybe old school records

Please follow up with @Angleterre. She knows about about procedures and options.

Those bars are worrying. Aside from concerns re the family, we have had cases here in the UK of modern slavery. The vehicles and housing you describe "fits" the profile of cases we have had.

Thank you I will message @Angleterre to see if anything can be done. It is indeed very concerning

I second this. @Angleterre the best advice you're going to get.

Interesting, but disturbing possibilities!
Curious to know if the offspring look like the parents and if the family is relatively new to the UK?
The family are from the uk and lived here since birth as far as I'm aware. Im going to go to the local council to look at the archives of the school they attended to try and obtain a photo. Fingers crossed

The UK death records currently go up to 2005, would that cover the time the daughter is said to have died? If the parents say she died before then, there'll be a listing for her and a death certificate could be ordered (for a fee). If there isn't, hopefully the police would look into it further.

Deaths & Burials - Genes Reunited

Theres no record of her death on that link or on ancestry.com which someone kindly looked into for me. I'm going to do some more digging before taking it to the police again as this time I want it to be taken seriously. Thanks for your help

I hope you can keep us updated on this @Crimecat10, though I appreciate once you've gone to the police you'll be limited what you can say unless/until charges are brought. I think your reasons and justifications for suspecting foul play are entirely logical, especially having followed the Margaret Fleming case. I really wish you the best of luck and hope you'll stick around!
