Lacy did the right thing, bringing JM Karr back to the US to help identify and bring to justice the alledged murderer of JonBenet Ramsey.
Karr's "confession" revealed details about the murder that only the killer could know. His delusional belief that he was physically present at her death was fueled by information given to him by the real murderer, a man now behind bars himself.
Tight-lipped to the end, prosecutors have not revealed whether testimony and evidence in the upcoming trial wll indicate involvement on the part of JonBenet's parents, although it's been confirmed in the press that the accused murderer had been a guest in the Ramsey home on several occasions.
The local Boulder man, who participated in an extensive internet pedophile ring, apparently believed his skillful attempt to clean up the crime scene would protect him from investigation and justice.
Instead, a few years after that December night, when things went so terribly wrong for JonBenet, the man now charged with her murder, intoxicated and talkative, spilled the story to John Mark Karr at a bar in Thailand. He recounted a night of drugs and alcohol that drove him to bring his "equipment," including gloves, the garrot and the tape, to the Ramsey home on Christmas night, intending to kidnap the child while her parents slept.
Familiar enough with the Ramseys to know about John Ramsey's recent $118,000 bonus, and too high to consider his words, the alledged murderer printed a rambling two page ransom note full of movie quotes and threats. According to Karr, the alledged murderer never cared about the money, but simply acted under the influence of a powerful combination of illegal substances.
Meanwhile, everyone in the household remained asleep.
Finding JonBenet in her room, the man was overcome by the temptation to take advantage of the girl, and did not immediately leave the home, but instead took the child to the basement. There, his actions resulted in her death. Abandoning his kidnapping plan, after cleaning up, the man fled.
Karr's subsequent "confession," followed by his identification of the alledged murderer for police, brought an end to a 10 year mystery.
