Gülistan Doku is a 21-year-old university student who has been missing since January 5, 2020, in Tunceli, Turkey. She was studying Child Development at Munzur University and was in her second year at the time of her disappearance.
According to reports, Gülistan was last seen near the Dinar Bridge area around noon on January 5. The initial theory suggested a possible suicide by jumping into the nearby Uzunçayır Dam Lake; however, extensive searches in the water yielded no results. Her body has never been found.
Prior to her disappearance, Gülistan had been in a relationship with Zaynal Abakarov, a Russian national of Chechen origin. The two reportedly had a conflict shortly before she vanished. Abakarov’s stepfather is a police officer, and there have been allegations that this connection may have influenced the investigation. After the incident, Abakarov left Turkey, which further fueled suspicions.
Gülistan's family and many supporters believe she was either abducted or killed and have continuously called for a deeper, more transparent investigation. The case has gained national attention in Turkey and remains a symbol of unsolved female disappearances and the demand for justice.
In 2023, Abakarov was charged with “deprivation of liberty” (unlawful restraint), but the main mystery of Gülistan’s fate remains unresolved.
