Why does the format keep changing?

On my iPad, the format keeps changing. Why does it randomly change back and forth from normal to a wider thread title column? I realize this is a trivial issue, but it drives me crazy! How do I make it stay one way or the other consistently? Does this happen to others, too, or is it just me?

I don't know but I do know that when I view subscriptions, the titles will go 2 lines and view complete. I'm tempted to subscribe to every thread to be able to read the complete title. I wish I knew what display or view settings allows 2 line titles.
