If he was John Doe Namus #UP5840, then he presumably never traveled home and stayed in California? (James is missing since 1972. John Doe was found comatose and then died in the hospital in 1974.)

Did LE in San Francisco have a missing person's report for James in 1972?

What a loss, this sweet-looking young man. His family must have been devastated when he didn't return.

Fingers crossed, I reached out to the SF ME and Mequon detectives for more info.

That was my theory. He overdosed, so I figured he stayed in the drug crowd and never went home. I don’t know when they got James’ missing persons report, if ever. All I know is I submitted it in 2024 and the medical examiner wanted to exhume the body for a test.

Spoke to the police on this, he is no longer missing, but is deceased, and the remains were not the San Francisco doe. They wouldn’t say more. Very sad I didn’t help but at least his family has closure.

I guess that's why the Doe's profile is still in NamUs. Hopefully he will be identified. And hopefully James' name will be added as an exclusion.

Rest in peace, James.
