Circumstances of Recovery: On Sunday August 12, 1973, at approximately 1:30pm, a fisherman went to re-fuel his outboard boat motor when he discovered an infant wrapped in a piece of paper mill felt within one (1) to three (3) feet of water, near a boat slip / boathouse. This area was located off the High Falls Flowage (Peshtigo River) near Twin Bridge, off County Road X in the Town of Stephenson, Marinette County, Wisconsin. The Marinette County Sheriff's Office responded to investigate. A subsequent autopsy was completed and it was determined that the infant was a newborn that was alive at birth and died of asphyxiation (drowning). It was also noted that the infant was full term.
