Press Release: Missing Person
On Sunday, February 10, 2019, at 9:16 p.m. the Door County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an overdue traveler who was visiting his town of Jacksonport property and had not yet returned to his home in Neenah. The last reported contact with the subject was around 5:00p.m. when he contacted his wife and told her that he was taking photos at Cave Point County Park. Deputies were dispatched to the area and located the subject’s vehicle in a parking lot at the park at 9:43p.m.
Deputies conducted a foot search of the park and located some property that they believed belonged to the subject near a cliff along the shore. Conditions at the time were reported to be 7 to 8 foot waves on Lake Michigan and the cliff along the shore was reported to be ice-covered and dangerous. The Sturgeon Bay Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard were contacted for assistance. A more extensive ground search was conducted by the fire department. The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter and boat and conducted a water search of the area. The Coast Guard suspended their search at 1:30a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019.
Search efforts continue for the 57 year-old Neenah man. Hazardous conditions on Lake Michigan continue and are hampering these efforts. Foul play is not suspected. The subject’s name is not being released at this time.
