At least two of the three young children at home Wednesday night when their parents were shot witnessed some of the gun violence, Madison police said.

"They gave police some information," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. "They are very traumatized."

Police have not released the names of any suspects involved in the shooting, but DeSpain said the crime did not appear to be random.

Hmm wonder what is up. At first I was thinking he was concerned for the safety of his children, now I am left thinking drugs or he is involved. jmo

Hmm wonder what is up.

Something seems off to me. Why would her husband NOT cooperate?? That doesn't make sense. Unless he has selfish reasons not to... but obviously that's total speculation on my part with the little info I have.

ETA: Not that it necessarily matters but it's a fairly poor neighborhood. That whole road has a lot of low income housing. Not all, but quite a bit. I don't know if this house is in that same area or not. I'm going to drive by on my way home from work tonight and scope it out. :)

Odd they'd be doing this on such a stormy night. Wonder if there was a reason for doing this at that time.

It says update but the info is unchanged. It says something to me when the wife is killed and the husband has non life threatening injuries. jmo

I thought that too. Not necessarily for the most obvious reason, but it could be possible that it was a message/warning to him. It seems to me that most people under those circumstances would be more concerned with making sure the man was dead since he'd probably be a bigger threat. MOO

From June 2014:

http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/lo...cle_9322af10-d517-573c-93fc-e094e147aca8.html

Linsmeier was referring to the unsolved murder of Julia Majette, 25, a mother of three, who was shot and killed June 12, 2013, during a home invasion at the Far East Side duplex she shared with her husband, Daunte Vance...

“We’ve been working it for one year,” Linsmeier said. “We are definitely looking for tips, and are in need of the community’s help if we are going to solve this.”

This article is about the godmother of the victims children, Kandis Janay , and she discusses the crime in it.
“In June 2013, two men stormed into the North Thompson Drive residence of her best friend, Julia Majette, and fatally shot the 25-year-old in the head. Majette’s husband, Daunte T. Vance, was also shot and wounded. Their three children — Kandis’ godchildren — were 2, 5 and 6 when their mother was murdered.”

Wisconsin State Journal Sat, Jun 15, 2013 page 1 & page 10 (Newspapers.com)

Julia S. Majette was killed and her husband, Daunte T. Vance, 34, was wounded. Both were shot. The residence was at 732 N. Thompson Drive. Their parents, Mark and Patricia Cherry were sleeping in their room in the basement. Their children, ages 2,, 5 and 6 were present at the time of the shooting. Vance was shot in the shower in the bathroom. Majette was found outside the bathroom. Two men, at least one with a handgun, entered the duplex shortly after 8 pm.

Vance had been shot once before on April 2, 2007, allegedly by a man with whom he had participated in a botched home invasion robbery where they robbed the wrong home. He had been charged with armed burglary and armed robbery. The home they robbed was in the 1100 block of Wayridge Dr in Madison. A man was pistol-whipped and gunshots were fired.

That same night, Vance invaded another home in Fitchburg after being shot in the face. A man named Marcus Canady shot him in a disagreement about drugs. In April 2009 Vance was sentenced to three years in prison in Illinois for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in 2006. Vance was arrested multiple times since 1996. Vance was arrested for possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.

At time of Wednesday's shooting he was wanted on an arrest warrant in Waukesha for failure to appear for resisting or obstructing an officer and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
