I checked out where the Showboat is, and I dislike that it's so close to water :(

Sad news :(

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. - The body of a New Berlin man who disappeared on New Year's Eve was found in the Wisconsin River Tuesday morning, Jan. 3, Wisconsin Dells police said.

Matthew Haas, 37, was last seen in downtown Wisconsin Dells, last heard from around midnight Jan. 1.

Searches of the area where his cellphone last pinged were conducted Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, using a K-9 and drones. Police described it as a wooded area along the river with steep cliffs and ravines.

The search resumed Tuesday morning, and that's when Haas body was found around 10:30 a.m.

Wisconsin Dells police stressed that "even though Matthew has been found, this is still an active investigation, and we are still following up on information and leads that we have received," adding that: "This is the tragic outcome that we had not hoped for."

Can someone explain to me how this happens? This is like the 4th time in the last two weeks where a young male was out drinking, not dressed for the weather, and is found in a body of water. I truly don’t understand?

RIP, truly devastating news
RIP Matthew !!

There are many, many more of young men found in or around water after out partying at bars.
I think there is a thread for them.

Let me go look, at one time we had a thread for similar cases like this.

How does this happen ??/ Hmmmm

Being in very cold temperatures without proper clothing is a significant risk for hypothermia. Add in alcohol consumption and the effects are even more pronounced. A person who is mildly hypothermic will see the loss of ability to do normal physical activities like zip zippers or walk without stumbling. There is also an impairment of mental ability as the brain cools such as slurred speech, disorientation, and sleepiness. Once a person becomes moderately hypothermic they will feel cold, but their shivering is weak or stopped. They will have little to no physical ability to care for themselves or perform physical tasks and have a substantially altered mental state It will be difficult for them to speak (i.e. call for help), they may feel apathetic or lethargic, they may seem confused, make odd decisions, and walking will be what some of us who have worked with SAR personnel have called “stumbling/bumbling” which can lead to falls, including into water. Combine the effects of alcohol intoxication with the effects of hypothermia and ending up in the water is not at all surprising, and so tragic. My heart goes out to this young man's family. May he rest in peace.

True with the cold weather, but I need to look at all the cases again as some were not in the winter, but in spring or summer so the hypothermic would not affect them.
Of course, the alcohol and confusion or slipping and falling due to drinking would be the main factor, regardless of the weather.

Honestly, I think they like urinating in rivers. The drunk ones stumble and fall in.

Hmmm normally they would say foul play not suspected.

ETA: Ignore above. Just seen this.

Wisconsin Dells Police Department

Based on the information and evidence that has been collected so far, foul play is not suspected. I stress that even though Matthew has been found, this is still an active investigation, and we are still following up on information and leads that we have received. This is the tragic outcome that we had not hoped for. We at the Wisconsin Dells Police Department send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Matthew, and we respectfully request that you honor their privacy in these tough times.
