"The Oneida County Sheriff's Department says what appears to be human skeletal remains have been found in a wooded area near Lake Julia in the Town of Pelican. The discovery was made by a citizen, according to a press release. The Town of Pelican is southeast of Rhinelander.

Lt. Dan Hess from the Oneida County Sheriff's Department said the body is an adult man".

"Preliminary investigation indicates that it is a suspected adult male and it does not appear to be a recent death," Hess said, adding that it's unclear how old the person was. "All I can tell you is it's a suspected adult male until we get further (information) from dental records."

Hess said investigators believe the remains have been in the woods for "at least a year."

Clothing items were found near the remains but Hess declined to share specifics."

Skeletal remains found in a wooded area near Rhinelander are those of a 54-year-old man who had avoided probation and parole for more than a year, the Oneida County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.

No foul play is suspected in the death of Steven J. Boron of Oneida County, Chief Deputy Dan Hess said.
