My initial thought was 63 is pretty young for dementia - however, I've seen numerous cases here where early onset dementia CAN be caused by years of alcohol abuse.
That may not be a factor here, and he could have underlying medical issues that having nothing to do with that. However Mr. Janssen had multiple DUI's in the late 90's. Hopefully he's been sober since, and it may be unrelated, but if he's a recovered alcoholic and has memory issues, he may forget he's in recovery (a lifelong thing) and may seek out a place to get alcohol. I've seen it in our community, the person was found safe, but it came to mind when I read this.
