A 70-year-old Italian died when a World War One bomb, part of his collection of military memorabilia, exploded while he was showing it to a friend in his garden

Aldo Busato, a retired farmer, died instantly. The man he was showing the bomb to was seriously injured, the local fire brigade said.

Busato lived in north-eastern Italy, the focus of Italian fighting against the Austro-Hungarians in the 1914-1918 war.

The major WW1 battlefield (Somme) is only about 50 miles from where we are going on hoiliday this year, we went to the same place last year and I sneaked off to visit the memorials. It is a very common sight to see piles of rusting shells by the roadside. They are still coming up through the soil and the farmers plough a few up every yerar, they pile them by the roadside and the French Bomb Disposal guys pick them up.
