I hope this woman can remain anonymous if she wishes. The man was a career criminal whose weapons were all illegally obtained and owned, and I think she saved a lot of lives. I just wish she'd never had to do it in the first place.

It reminded me of this story from 1990, that I have never forgotten. TL : DR - a young man, and a lot of other people too, saw a man fatally shoot his ex-girlfriend in public, and then drive off. The young man fired his rifle at the man's car, intending only to disable the car but actually killed him. He was, IMNSHO, NOT a vigilante.

Thanks for posting this!

From linked article:

it is not yet clear how Butler obtained the weapon - which he was not legally allowed to carry as a convicted felon.

and

the woman who fired back did not have any law enforcement background. She has not been identified.
"She's just a member of the community who was carrying her weapon lawfully," he said. "And instead of running from the threat she engaged with the threat and saved several lives."
The woman remained at the scene after the shooting, and is co-operating with investigators.
Charges will not be filed against her, police added.

Bad person with a gun killed by a good person with a gun - Trump's point made

This is rare but I’m glad that she prevailed. Bad ones with guns do way more damage than good ones prevent.

The "good guys" also know when NOT to use their firearms! At the Tucson shooting, a man who had a legal concealed firearm almost pulled it and shot the wrong person, when he saw a man holding a large gun. It was not the shooter, but one of the people who had wrestled him to the ground and took his weapon, and that man was later very grateful that he did not follow his first impulse.

This happened at that mall in Alabama too. Good guy with a gun got killed by other good guy by mistake. When guns start showing people get scared and confused.

Every time this debate comes up, I remember this day. All five people killed had guns - for different reasons - and they all died that day.
