I am wondering if Reedy was her married name. My reasons are;
  • In 1960 a Donald McGruer Reedy married Juanita Lewis in Boone, WV (very near Beckley.
  • There is a WW2 enlistment record giving Vida Mcgurer Reedy as the wife of Charles Edward Reedy. These Reedys lived in Ohio.
  • In 1985 Vida Reedy died in Ohio and her obituary says "Survived by son Donald M. Reedy; grandchildren Douglas and Kimberly Reedy, all of Berkley, W. Va."
I assume Berkley is a typo for Beckley, since WV does not seem to have a Berkley.

The only Juanita Lewis I can find whose birthdate fits was born 28/9/1942 in Bell, Kentucky to Zilpha Lewis. Although the MP sites give the birth year as 1943 this is not a problem. The MP sites seem to be wrong as there are multiple entries in the US Public Records Index for Juanita Reedy in Shady Springs WV (right next to Beckley) which give it as 28/9/1942. But whether it is the same person as that born in Kentucky I do not know. A possible connection lies in the common industry of coal mining.

Not sure this takes us further forward, but it may fill in a few gaps for further research.

Looks a bit like Ms. Wiggins to me. Wonder if she had any kids?

Berkley Register Herald, March 28, 1987, pg 6 - this article indicates 5K was withdrawn from the joint bank account on the last day she was seen

There is only speculation... but if money was withdrawn from her account, she probably went far away of her own free will or was assaulted, robbed and murdered... her car was thrown away like garbage... I think we will never know what happened to her... and there is very little information about her...
whatever the case
may she rest in peace

Hi -

I dont know if i can add anything of substance, since it has been decades. The Reedys were our neighbors in Beckley, their daughter and my sister were best friends (I was about four at this time). We moved south about two years before Juanita’s disappearance.

We had heard of the disappearance and its curious nature; my sister kept in touch with her daughter, Kim, until as recently as the mid 2010’s (through social media). Kim, I believe, has changed her name.

The only thing i can add as to Juanita’s case is that I dont think Juanita had the know-how to strip a vehicle the way it had been done. I also seem to recall that the marriage was under some stress while we knew them or after we left, although I dont recall the specific occasion under which I discovered this - but Im sure that very old hearsay from a kid is barely a usable clue.

All this to say, the circumstances, to me, point to someone else staging the crime scene, but with her knowledge and approval. But I dont think she survived the days between her disappearance and the discovery of the car.

Another thing to note is the region itself. That area of geography is very mountainous, with several rivers and tributaries, not to mention the New River Gorge itself, and dense forests. With nine days time, should that disappearance have turned fatal, evidence could have so easily been disposed of and never seen again.

I wish I had more to add.
