Residents on shooting: Snitches get stitches
Police ID Victims in Wyandanch Triple Homicide
On the night of June 3, 2015 four people sat in a Chevy trailblazer on Davidson Street in Wyandanch, NY. In the driver seat was 25 year old William Madrey, his front seat passenger was 23 year old Stephanie Almedina Rivera (of Bay Shore), in the backseat was 23 year old Ciara Smith (of Deer Park), and one more unidentified female passenger.
The SUV was described as being just steps from the house where William was staying. It's alleged that a gunman walked up to the SUV and shot everyone inside. All were pronounced dead at the scene, except for the unidentified passenger who taken to South Side Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Police have stated this triple homicide will be difficult to solve because of the no snitching culture of the area. So years have passed without any new leads (that we know of). I believe this case can be solved, and I believe the lifestyle of the victims has probably contributed to a lack of law enforcement interest in solving it.
I'm listing what I know below, and I want to be clear this isn't meant to pass judgment on any of the victims, but these facts could be directly linked to why they were targeted:
1. Despite William's family insisting he wasn't gang affiliated, it seems that he at least used to be. A childhood friend had confirmed he had gotten into trouble in his younger years. I get the impression he had made a change in his life, because he became a father, but he was likely in a gang before and at the very least continued to associate with gang members.
2. Stephanie was absolutely gang affiliated. It's apparent on her own social media pages.
3. Stephanie was arrested (for a few days?) about 3 months before the murders. Her friends/family in the gang suspected she'd been arrested because someone snitched on her. I have no information on what she was arrested for.
4. Days after the murders I was told Stephanie would sometimes post herself on the now defunct Backpage website, and I was shown pictures of her partying on different occasions with a small group of people in what looked like a motel room. The person showing me explained that these pictures were used to advertise on Backpage.
5. Stephanie's nickname was Feisty, and from what I've heard of her, she was. This rubbed some people the wrong way.
6. There was a rumor that the gunman was actually a woman, who jumped into a white getaway car that was driven by a male, after shooting the victims.
7. There was a rumor that police didn't come to the scene for approximately 25 minutes. Did the unidentified passenger call 911? Were the other passengers killed instantly or was this surviving passenger forced to watch/listen to her friends dying?
8. I always found it strange that the sole surviving passenger has not or could not ID the shooter. At least enough to say if the shooter was male or female. Maybe police already have that information, and just haven't released it to the public.
Just given these bits of information, it seems like there's plenty of reason for someone to have a motive to target one or all of the passengers in the car. It's just so unlikely that someone, if not several people, know who murdered these victims. Meanwhile, this killer is still free.
