Louisiana - Coronavirus COVID-19

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry has requested Gov. John Bel Edwards amend his current emergency proclamation to open churches and houses of worship.

Landry said Thursday he wants churches to open immediately by following specific best practice guidelines.

Landry highlighted in the letter that "religious liberty is a bedrock principled right from which our freedom flows."

AG Landry asks Gov. Edwards to consider reopening churches
Jeff Landry is from my parish. I know his family and they’re super Catholic and republican. Governor Edwards is also Catholic and a Democrat. Jeff wants to run for governor and loves publicity. I can’t imagine (and hopes he doesn’t cave) the governor will change his mind. Louisiana has not made much progress in making it to The 1st step to loosen the reigns. I’m Catholic and attend mass regularly but I admit that participating in a virtual mass and prayer services has been awesome. Tomorrow the governor will address his directives for church services.

Never though I would see the day they were arresting pastors for holding services while releasing inmates from prison.

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced he is extending Louisiana’s stay-at-home order through May 15, saying some regions of the state haven’t shown enough progress to lessen widespread restrictions on businesses and public gatherings. But if the state’s rate of infections continues to decrease, the governor said he expects he will begin to loosen constraints on May 16, with churches and more retailers allowed to open statewide at that time, including hair and nail salons and some restaurant dine-in services.

Orleans parish is only reopening with stricter guidelines. Casino is a no. I also think the aquarium is a no, but I'm not positive. Which is good. Casino is nothing but touching everything and pretty close contact, really.

Hurricane season starts June 1. That’s nothing new for those who live along the Gulf Coast, but what is new this year is the fact hurricane season will happen during the coronavirus pandemic. Evelina Burnett of Mississippi Public Broadcasting, Tegan Wendland of WWNO in New Orleans and WBHM’s Andrew Yeager described how officials in their respective states are preparing.

How Shelters May Change

  • Mississippi officials estimate shelters may only hold a third of normal capacity because of social distancing.
  • Louisiana emergency leaders have discussed checking temperatures and separating those who may show signs of COVID-19
  • Another concern is that some volunteers are older and could be at higher risk of complications if they are infected.

You need to follow the information in the link you provided to find that people 50 and over who were not vaccinated had 42 times the risk of dying from covid compared with people who had been fully vaccinated.

I watch the daily stats. It's shocking to see how The deaths are higher for vaccinated. Our vent usage and hospitalization are creeping up.

I wonder if the term ‘not fully vaccinated’ means not having boosters 1 and 2.
