DETROIT – At Prince Valley Market on Michigan Avenue in Detroit, the shelves are fully stocked and the options are plentiful.

Customers say they’re paying close attention to how much things cost everywhere.

“Prices are real high,” said Dora Hopkins of Southfield.

Hopkins makes it a priority to buy healthy foods but is careful to compare prices.

“It’s good for my health. Certain things are just high, you know, then I try to find something that could be lower-priced,” said Hopkins.

That’s a great approach said Bethany Thayer, a registered dietitian nutritionist at Henry Ford Health...

This article has a good list of things to do to reduce grocery costs. I do a lot of these. Particularly meat in the crock pot, meal prep for the freezer. I was just looking in my little chest freezer today and saw I need to defrost it. It's not bad but it is a good excuse to get that big pork roast cooked and into small meals. I found a seasoning packet that I want to try. McCormick Bourbon Pork. You're supposed to add veggies to the pan too.

Today I went to a grocery pick up. I hadn’t been since the mid April. My friend went for me once in May when I had Covid. They gave me a ton of stuff!! So much dairy and meat! They gave us roses too. I think my 20 something kids will be excited for sour patch kids. Ha!

I used up a lot in my freezer in the last few weeks. I need to do some meal prep now.

Wow! That is a lot of food. I help with our church‘s monthly food giveaway and we giveaway basically the same type of items but not near the quantity (especially the meat) that your community is able to provide. What a wonderful blessing.

The food baskets you show pictures of remind me of the Food Network show Chopped. I look at your pictures and think to myself what could I cook with these items. Lol

I enjoy reading how you food prep and share your meals with family and friends.
