TKS S1 E6: "A Killer on the Road".

This technology was becoming available way back in the 80's when I started working for UPS in the data center. It grew so fast that we could hardly keep up with it all but it was also a very exciting time for the company. Working in IT I was connected to HUBS worldwide, the Airline they developed and keeping all these operations up and running, so your packages were delievered on time. lol

Very intense work but was compensated very well for it. I was also the first woman hired in IT with my computer science degree, but that was way back in the 80's. It would definitely interest me if as you've said the technology is finally happening in the trucking industry, such as what's happening with the Volvo trucks your spouse is using.

It's certainly one way to by-pass constitutional rights many have stated here, as private trucking companies can require employee's to a certain point. UPS was cutting edge in tracking not just packages, but fuel, drivers time, mechanical systems. I KNOW the technology is available. It would be difficult for a UPS driver to become a SK on company time.

It seems pretty difficult to track long haul drivers who are out on the road, running state to state using little to no technology that's available. It's become harder to be a SK and to get away with it, but it's still happening and I wonder if it's just pure luck that they aren't caught in a timely fashion. LISK made a mistake calling one victim's sister, the AC4, well they were leading underworld lives and that SK knew about that area where the bodies were dumped. BUT it's the traveling SK working the roads of our country who are able to commit their crimes and keep moving further away from the bodies they leave behind, they are the most dangerous and scary, IMHO...
In the newer cases of truck driver sk's were going to be looking at a driver who works for one of the really small companies that still do not have a digital print. One who drives a unit that leaves a digital print could still do these things but he's taking a pretty big risk for when he is caught and or confesses.

I've tried forever it seems to reply and I've had a heck of a day with my electronics. They all decoded to update at the same time for some odd reason, one even went on the fritz completely so I've been playing doctor using Google as my manual lol.

UGH, yes. He said ' looks like you are looking for sex with that outfit...' WTH?

After he said that it made me think that he himself might be one of the 'sicko' truck drivers we are looking for.

I thought EXACTLY the same thing - I played it twice to make sure he actually said what I thought he said .

I've noticed in recent years they are dressed more normal as not to draw much attention to themselves. But it also depends on where you are. I've noticed in larger cities, some still wear short skirts, revealing tops.
I recently went on a trip with my husband and in the places we went to they were dressed in jeans and tops with tennis shoes.
But I have been in truckstops where I have seen ladies wearing the stiletto heels, mini dresses etc.

I remember a time many years ago (my father was a trucker too and I spent a lot of summers and school breaks on trips with him in the 80's and 90's) when they knocked on the doors of the rig to garner up business. Back then most were dressed as you would expect a lady of the night to be dressed by what we learn from watching tv.

As the years have passed by I've noticed less of the jumping on the side of a rig at random. Most are in a car with their handler or driver and use the CB to advertise. Once a driver agrees to have a date she is driven to that spacific rig.

Now we're in a digital age. A lot of the drivers seeking a date will use back page and request the lady to outcall to his location.

There is a strip in the memphis area that is saturated with ladies of the night. It's a high truck traffic area. It is well known you do not park in that area unless you are seeking a date. In that paticular area the ladies walk the street. The drivers park and there's signals that he is "looking" and the ladies approach his rig. The ladies on this strip are usually dressed in the way we would expect a sex worker to dress based on what we see on tv.

So really, it depends on where you are as to how they dress.

Thanks - you've answered my questions.. I was totally confused ... the girls who were found wearing socks - I was thinking that socks weren't a typical thing associated with working girls...I thought it maybe something more .
Thank you for details - none of the girls i used to see every day in kings cross would have ever worn socks - so I've been wondering.
When I lived in the cross I became very attached to all the girls I saw daily . We'd say hello .. they too started being killed - very young girls . Broke my heart as I had just had a baby ... I don't know if they were ever solved. Poor darlings .

SO glad to hear it used - one of my all time favourite bands. Thanks Rachel and josh...can I say too that your ws name is pure brilliance. Clever , wish I'd thought of it... haha

Kings cross in Sydney is a strange place - or was - I don't live there anymore
It's a village to those who live there and you walk everywhere - no car parks -the girls all had their doorways .. and youd get attached to the same faces - day in day out they would be there . Until they disappeared.
Sorry off topic but it got me thinking how different life is for a " working girl" now . No craigslist or backpage then . It seems so much more dangerous now , more anonymous - if that's possible.
These girls deserve no judgement , know one knows what's driven them to that ... so I thank you all for doing your damnedest to give them justice.
I'd see people spit on these young girls and it would break my heart ......

Don't feel bad for veering off topic a bit, it really is on topic in a way. We never know or understand why one would go down that life path. To us we may think... man why couldn't they just get a job at McDonald's. But it's really not that simple sadly.

In my travels I've been in close proximity to sex workers and homeless people. I have always treated them with dignity as should anyone else.

I wonder how female truck drivers deal with what they see. I could never turn a blind eye to someone being hurt like it implies that truck drivers do. I wonder if they are assaulted too.

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to say I'm overwhelmed and pleased by the amount of activity here and on WS in general. It's really just Josh and me so I'm having a tough time keeping up with all the interesting theories, leads, and downright caring you all are giving. If we could get help from moderators to send posts our way through messages, or one bulk message, that would be helpful. Between WS, twitter, FB, email, phone, and smoke signal, we're being bombarded by messages. Hard to keep up but trying. Please don't stop! I really feel something good will come from all this people power soon!

Rachel

Hi Danse, I would suggest disabling PMs (in your settings), and include a "please contact a moderator via the alert button
Screen%20Shot%202016-11-19%20at%201.10.37%20PM_zpslsloknjv.png~original
with any questions
," in your signature. This keeps you from being bombarded, while still allowing messages to reach you.

And, yes, it would increase our (mods & admins) work, to some degree but at least it allows more people to be involved in helping "sort through" info.

Hers the thing, we don't really see much along the lines of say violence. What we see are women doing their thing. At some locations that may mean knocking on doors, other locations it could be using the radio. We close our curtains, we turn our radio off. We try to stay below the radar. For instance, when I was a solo driver I would park my rig, if it was after dark I didn't get dinner. I had to just make sure I had already had dinner or have a snack to hold me till daylight. I ran ratchet straps from door to door so if my door lock got popped the door would not open. You pee in a cup! Yes that is nasty but I'd rather urinate in a cup than be raped or killed because I walked in a dark parking lot at night.
On the occasions I had a escort it was OK to go inside the truck stop during dark hours. By escort I mean someone I personally know. I was lucky, I was very well protected by the men I worked with.

We stay very under the radar! When I drove team with my spouse we even had our own rules even though there two of us. We may be over cautious because we follow true crime but it'd better to be safe than sorry. I'm a small woman, and do get many compliments which is even more reason for me to be extra safe on the road.

You learn to never talk on the radio and tell where you are stopping or parking for the night.

As far as witnessing violence and dealing with that in your mind, I've not seen many cases but the ones I've seen were not pretty and I have no issue with calling 911

You learn to disassociate.

I give you so much credit to be able to do that job. I am so glad you were safe, and smart about it too! I could never do that job, my bladder is so tiny lol. Thank you for posting you experiences and I am so grateful that you were safe.

I was glad to hear a reference to a closed society of truck drivers who are coordinating efforts to kill. However, former truck driver myself I want to shed a light on a new angle of investigation in reference to the number of highway killings nation wide, as discussed in the last episode of "the killing season." With no disrespect to the victims, has anyone thought about the possibility of a rival sex worker in some cases? I have been in these truck stops and have seen first hand how dangerous the sex workers are. It's not a stretch of the imagination for a sex worker to enlist a driver to locate another sex worker in an effort to ambush and kill them. Has there been an inquiry into the involvment or coercion to carry out some of these murders? The sex workers are privy to the "dumping grounds," with intimate knowledge of transportation routes. Based on the mentality of drivers looking out for themselves and their own interests. Along with the "no tell' mentality, who's to say that this elite group of killers isn't well known and feared among these sex workers/accomplices?
